Make a new account and link your paypal account. Thats it. The only “catch” besides needing a paypal account is auto renewals I think.
You might be able to disable auto renewals for it in paypal, but i'm not sure if perplexity disables pro if they detect that. If someone tests this, please let me know in the comments.

You have already subscribed to the annual plan. If you cancel the subscription it will still give you Pro access, but won't renew after your first billing cycle.

Someone should do a benchmark test against this free “pro” vs paid “pro”. Recently they started giving free pro for Indian users which allegedly was a nerfed version even worse than ChatGPT free tier
I had a year of free pro that recently expired, Perplexity is shit. I'd ask it a question, it'd give me an answer with a bunch of citations, I'd look at the citations and they would either be completely random unreliable sources or wouldn't even contain what it said they did. e.g. I wanted to know what codecs a phone supported for Bluetooth, it cited random users on reddit and XDA instead of finding actual spec sheet. (Not even users posting "here's a list", stuff like user A posting "it supports this codec", user B posting "it supports this other codec", etc.)
Also feels like it consistently got worse over time, I assume they're bleeding money so they're using worse models
I second this. Even basic research is a complete joke. Like you said it doesn’t find / use the right sources. Quotes nitwits on Reddit without double checking. Rarely checks Wikipedia unless there’s a dedicated page for what I asked. Just copy pastes random shit without any kind of intelligence.
The near instant answer on Google is actually of much higher quality than Perplexity “Pro”.
It’s just comical when I hear about how much money Perplexity has, like their bid to buy the Chrome browser, and with all the money in the world they can’t even build an agentic research tool on par with a high school student…

From personal experience the Perplexity is not great, prefer the Gemini CLI is great - 60 requests per minute, 1000 requests per day, access to Gemini 2.5 pro and completely free

Indian users already got perplexity pro for 1 year with airtel. In which reddit users are complaining that its a scam. Pro version isn't giving better results, instead giving lower quality results.
Guess have to try this one also, i use perplexity alot. Will check the difference of this one & the one i got with airtel sim.
Do they have different variations customized for a country ? Maybe that messed it up .

Not sure, just tried the paypal version. It seems to be giving slow response for simple questions.
I just asked it to compare our free web hosting with other providers & give a chart. It did a great work, but was little slow in response.
