Birthday request, lowest latency to AS6848

Hey!

In a few days it is my birthday, so I was wondering if I could surprise myself with a VPS with low latency to AS6848.
The IP that can be used for this is 178.118.248.1

Mainly looking for BE or NL, but other locations can be considered depending on latency.
DDoS protection is a nice to have but not a requirement, a decent CPU (for VPN) is nice though.

I found 2 BE hosts so far (PQ and OVH) with 3.5ms latency, but both of them don't have direct routes to for example NL.
Any help is appreciated :)

Thanked by 1mandala

  • As GCP Brussels is ~5ms to your test ip and GCP has good connections to NL (other than e.g. OVH, where Brussels is only served via RBX) but those are still at ~10ms from NL to GCP Brussels, I would rather go with a VPS in AMS, e.g. Onidel, xTom, Host Sailor etc. All come at 7ms to your test IP but have better connections elsewhere via AMS than anything you would get in Brussels. And you probably do not want to use GCP anyway

I think both PQ and OVH use the same DC in Brussels.
xTom AMS and iFog AMS has the lowest latency outside of OVH with 6.5ms to the IP you provided.

Our AMS location is about 6.5ms based on the LG - https://nl-ams.lg.mlnl.host

Correct, would be quite pricey I'd assume, also they're not in Brussels are they?

I've seen 6ms from Hybula, but that is quite pricey to say the least... so I'm under the assumption some other host can also do this, maybe even beat it.

It is likely they use the same DC yeah, though PQ gets high latency to cloudflare while OVH gets 0.3ms, so Cloudflare is definitely in the same DC as OVH. (Interxion Zaventem, I think)

This looks quite good, however only storage options seems to be available? Also, do you follow GDPR?

  • @RoyaleHosting will be good if DDoS Protection is important. They have the same 6.5ms latency. It seems any provider with AS6830 Liberty Global B.V. as upstream will have good connection to Telenet BV

In AMS we have many Dedicated Servers - currently have a Ryzen 5800X available immediately. DM me and we can figure out other offers for you too

  • Oeh I forgot about them thanks :), checked them out though their bandwidth is very expensive, especially considering it's M247 (the.hosting/pq.hosting also provides this, but without bandwidth limit, at about the same price). Both are very unstable if you ping combell.be, ranges from like 0.5ms to 10+ms, despite being in the same datacenter.

Not sure if this issue appears only on Combell and level27.be or also when pinging other things, I didn't check too many things. but as a comparison, to Combell OVH gets ~0.55ms with a spike to 0.65ms, and a server in Sweden only has 0.2ms difference in latency. (so around like 27.2ms min, 27.4ms max)

My general experience with M247 is that it isn't stable, so I'm avoiding them.
Combell is a big host, if not the biggest in BE (and part of team.blue), and Level27 (Localitel) owns BelgiumIX, neither are stable for M247.

While my plan doesn't involve either of those yet (Combell/Localitel), if I switch ISP's it could become very unstable, also, not sure how long the good latency to AS6848 will last due to it.

    64 bytes from combell.be: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=1.9009 ms
    64 bytes from combell.be: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.8045 ms
    64 bytes from combell.be: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=3.1937 ms
    64 bytes from combell.be: icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=6.064 ms

Hi, every network in Amsterdam that has peering/transit from LGI should have a good latency towards Telenet (around 6-7ms). If you're interested in a VM, reach out to us for a custom deal or await our new offers soon

  • Thanks for all the responses and birthday wishes :)

Just an update, I found one host which sells servers in Brussels and they will release more competitive deals (compared to other countries) this month.

I was allowed to see their prices already, but it's too good to believe it, so I'm waiting until I can actually order it.
