What's your best/worst purchase on LET?

SkelterSkelter Member
edited September 2025 in Reviews

After 2 years and two handfuls of purchases, i would like to pick my best and worst service providers so far.

Best:
@Chunkserve (Client for 11 months): has been WAY above my expectations. Excellent service, they're my best purchase on LET considering the price/quality ratio so far, hands down. Knock on wood they stay this way.

Worst:
@HostSlick (Client for 1 year + 1 year offer, as i would never renew): they were THE WORST! Jesus Christ... terrible service... not even with backup services and quick recovery deployment workflows i felt good with them...

Honourable mentions:
@RamNode - cool guys, not the cheapest, but fast support , snappy machines: overall , nice;
@balhost - not the snappiest but good consistent service;

Dishonourable mention:
@netcup , what a joke of a company!! You pay a VPS for 6 months that renews for another 6 months automatically, you have to cancel 31 days in advance otherwise it renews, even though its not a contract but rather a prepaid service. If you wait 5 months and one minute, you're in for another 6 months. Say what? You don't want to pay? They'll keep billing you to infinity and beyond and when you notice you get a bill of hundreds!!!!

You want out? You must cancel a 6 months service when you hit th 5 month mark, 31 days in advance, but alright , just be diligent and don't miss the day, right? Sure, and lose 1 month of service as it cuts off access to the VPS as soon as you cancel it. What clowns they are....

  • virmache. He showed me the Low end way. Of course this was before ' the event ' .

  • Are we counting flash sales? Or is it only normal deals/regular priced plans.

    Best:

    Bero 9950x 4core 8gb for €69/year
    Host c Pioneer 5TB storage $45/year
    Layer7 5 TB storage $50/year

    Worst:

    Naranjatech: Genoa 2 core 100GB

It has a mind of its own. Shuts down out of no where. It was so frequent that the server is unreliable and I won't continue after November. $35/year.

Actually my best and worst ones were both flash sales. The other ones mentioned were regular deals.

    Event? the Y2k one?

Honestly the best were probably servers i bought and then got to know the owners/workers there, met a lot of good hard working people and actual friends through servers I tried. For example but absolutely not limited to Crunchbit, Terabit, Host-c, Layer7, Kuroit and a lot more. Wonderful people.

I value my experience with the people working at the hosting companies WAY higher than the actual value of the server itself. Which is why I don't and probably will never use corporate robotic companies like hetzner and ovh.

The worst? I commissioned a drawing for my 5yo niece who is obsessed with horses from an artist here on LET and he sent me this

She cried for 2 days straights

nope. Lets just say at one time Virmache provided good low end vps which ran on colocrossing hardware. Probably the same hardware in use today by major advertisers here. What happened after that is unknown to mere mortals such as us. Someone else will have to offer up a perspective. I wouldnt buy his offerings now. So he could be entered as the 'Best' and the 'Worst' . LOL

I'll take a look at @host_c and @layer7 for sure as i need a storage unit. But i'm eyeing @labze for quite a while, he seems a nice guy and reliable , even if i have to pay extra, i hope to catch a deal from him this next Black Friday.

But 5TB for $45/$50 is great deal if hybrid (With a small SSD for booting the OS)

Both the storage servers are hybrid.

While Pioneer (discontinued) had 20 GB ssd but layer7 has 120 GB SSD (IIRC).

The Pioneer has been changed to some other package and now it is $57/year.

I had a hostbrr storage server but download/uploads were very slow from my region so I didn't continue.

My experience with Crunchbit is that they're always... sold out :/

Granted you paid at most $500 for that drawing , i call it a win.

  • Best: @DediRock 's $7/yr plan, what could you ask more?
Worst: when I was newbie, i bought virmach 1TB storage VPS for very high cost.

Not sure if it was from LET, but Dyjix lifetime VPN for €2. It was one location in France only.

Lasted about 6 months, before they shut it down. I'm still alive, and so is Dyjix, so eh.

Best definitely is my $1.75/mo server (was $2.10/mo until a recent sale) that runs incredibly well. The power this thing packs is insane.

Worst is CloudCone. Slowest speeds on a server I’ve used, network is incredibly slow, and when reaching out to support and being escalated to their network team (something of that sort, a higher up team), was told to run some trace routes and sent a link on how to, with no actual help on my issue.

Back to the best, it’s from MadCityServers and here’s the I/O part of the YABS (for the Los Angeles location) to show it off:

    Basic System Information:

    Processor : AMD Ryzen 9 9950X 16-Core Processor
    CPU cores : 1 @ 4291.928 MHz

    Disk : 19.6 GiB
    Distro : Debian GNU/Linux 13 (trixie)
    Kernel : 6.12.48+deb13-amd64
    VM Type : KVM
    IPv4/IPv6 : ✔ Online / ✔ Online

fio Disk Speed Tests (Mixed R/W 50/50) (Partition /dev/sda1):

    Read 310.55 MB/s (77.6k) 3.91 GB/s (61.2k)
    Write 311.37 MB/s (77.8k) 3.93 GB/s (61.5k)
    Total 621.93 MB/s (155.4k) 7.85 GB/s (122.7k)
Block Size 512k (IOPS) 1m (IOPS)
    ------ --- ---- ---- ----
    Read 4.97 GB/s (9.7k) 5.04 GB/s (4.9k)

  • Best:
@onidel since Welcome Onidel Promotion. I used to have seven VPSs, but now five.
@serverpoint and @HostDZire who fill up the blank for my bandwidth intensive loads.

  • I cant remember the provider anymore, but it was a hobby host and they had single OVH dedicated server with tons of storage and they resold that single node to insane amount of people. It took ages to even type anything to the SSH client, thats how slow it was lol.

    Maybe @Francisco remembers the provider.

A few excellent purchases, in no particular order:

Linveeo 8c8g (Ryzen 7950X, got free upgrade to 9950X), for $100/yr

    Host-C: Pioneer, (5TB storage), for $45/yr

Hosteroid: 2c4g in Vilinus for €21.87/yr

AvenaCloud: 1c1g, (DMCA ignore), for €11/yr

Hostbrr: Various deals where the price/quality has been really good.

I've also bought some absolute shit. The worst being HostSlick, but there's other providers where the price was too good to be true, and over time the service has degraded to the point where I've abandoned them, (because I'm not opening a ticket over a $7/yr server).
