Performance Storage Server for Git. Budget $60–80/year
Hello,
I’m looking for a reliable storage server (VPS or cheap dedicated) to run Gitea for private projects and to store related files.
Requirements:
- CPU: 2–4 cores
- RAM: 8GB or more (if can)
Storage:
- 500GB SSD or
- 1–2TB HDD
Bandwidth: Preferably 2–5TB/month (more is welcome)
- Budget: $60–80(more if it works within budget)/year
Use Case:
Hosting a lightweight Git server (Gitea) for personal/private development work.
- Will be storing large repositories with years of history and commits.
- Also storing some additional project files.
- Performance doesn’t need to be enterprise-grade, but stability, disk I/O, and reasonable bandwidth are important.
If you have any offers or recommendations within this range I’d greatly appreciate your input.
Thanks.!

+1 for servarica it's just too good
Go NVMe or worst case SSD. Just forget using spinning disks for repositories. That's insane in 2025.
Look into Raspberry Pi colo where you can bring your own USB SSD. This seems to be a really good use case for such a service.
I Can Hook It Up
LA is cheaper??
Yes, LA is cheaper in this case as it is coming with a SSD instead of NVMe boot disk.
the France offer looks good (since closer to me, so that’s a plus). What CPU does it run on, and how’s the storage side? I know the 2TB HDD won’t be dedicated, but I’m curious about the disk I/O performance and consistency any benchmarks or limits you could share? I’ll be hosting Gitea with large repos (lots of history), so steady read/write speeds matter. Also, are there any bandwidth limits or throttling I should be aware of?
Owh, I’ll check that out. Thanks for pointing me to it
👀curious what kind of offers you can do in my budget range
The server runs on Intel Xeon-E 2236 CPU.
Here are the I/O speeds...
NVMe Boot drive
HDD Storage drive
As per the deal, you have a bandwidth limit of 5TB/month @1Gbps without any throttling. After that, you'd need to purchase addon bandwidth.
