NameSilo changed my DNS and my domains are down

I have many domains with NameSilo and other providers.

I noticed some domains at Namesilo stopped working.

I checked their DNS, and it seems that domains that were previously using nameservers like ns1.something.com and ns2.something.com are now using ns1.something.com.namesilo.com and ns2.something.com.namesilo.com, pointing to 1.1.1.1 for some reason.

NameSilo itself had a service outage, and their client area has been acting funny all day.

I only got one reply from them, saying this a few hours ago:

"
Hi,

The issue was related to Verisign changes and was an emergency fix to prevent further downtime - if you resubmit Name servers there should be no further issues.

We deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

NameSilo Support Team
"

That was 4 hours ago.

The rest of the replies are... just wait for a fix (when they reply).

I still have many domains not working, and I don't even want to start on the ones that had personalized DNS which other domains relied on. Obviously, those aren't working either.

Is anyone else facing this, or am I the only one using NameSilo?

    Emergency fix my ass

It’s called a bug, own it

  • I always use 3rd party DNS services like Cloudflare and DNS Made Easy which have good uptime, are the nameservers function down as well? Mine doesn't seems to be affected.

    it seems that wouldn't help.

i have close to 1000 domains with them.. and probably have around 10 domains affected. DNS functions gives error.

Can you generate an EPP code for them, transfer away and just correct the NS? That'd be my first action

10 out of 1000? just correct the NS and re-submit.

    the thing is, you can't.
trying to modify/resubmit NS, gives an error in namesilo clientarea.

trying to do anything on these domains, gives an error.

tried, not possible for these domains. i guess the domains are bugged inside their system.

I see... since they are aware of the issue, you'll need to wait it out until they resolve it. Nothing much you can do.

Language used is accurate. He referred to it as an "issue".

I think he meant that they deployed a fix to stop the problem from KEEP happening (stop the bleed), but more work needed to repair the damage already done (dress the wounds).

Did you reply in the ticket to let them know? They believe you should be able to set it again now.

Yes, they know it doesnt work, photos attached for them, they have them

  • ok, finally, but no by ticket or mail, but trough webchat, they have started fixing manually each of the domains with issues.

they lost the registered nameservers and dns zones, not a big deal.

The big issue is that, these domains had like 10 hours or more of downtime, client-side, there was nothing to do to fix them, since these "active domains" were showing up as "expired domains" in their clientarea, and that was something they had to fix.

after around 10 emails and 6 chats, we have all domains working again. i'm sad for those that are patiently waiting for the mass fix they are promising trough mail.

  • Transfer out your domains. You have no reason to stay.

it was not possible. just like it wasnt possible to modify DNS of the affected domains.

now that they are working, yes, is now possible.

  • Namesilo prices are shit. Moved most domains off to porkbun & spaceship and have used cloudflare for DNS stuff for well over a decade now. No issues whatsoever.

    Thanked by 1tux
  • Had something similar with spaceship
They added some junk before and after my ns.domain.tld
