100 Gbit VPS providers

I was wondering whether 100 Gbit VPS providers do exist already and if they have LET pricing? Any suggestions?

Q: Where are the 100gbit LET priced vpses?

    A:

  • Would it be evil to tag a hosting provider who literally can't provide this

I thought about doing exactly that.

  • Let's aim high, why not 😂

But for an actual explanation on why 100gbit vpses don't exist, and won't for a long while:

The virtualization part of the VirtualPrivateServer makes it near impossible for this to happen. Virtualization itself takes a lot of overhead, add to it the layers of separation between the hypervisor and the virtual machine itself.

There are also a lot of other very nerdy technical reasons why this is unattainable with our current technology, and other people are most likely more qualified than me to answers and explain.

We will get there eventually, but it's soon tm at the moment.

100Gbps on VPS? I don't know anyone crazy enough to use 100Gbps for VPS Server.

We could do it if it was colocation, for fairly attractive pricing. If you're open to that, feel free to ping me privately.

10G is the most common right now for vps nodes.

We have dual 100G Uplinks though!

  • The virtual NIC of most hypervisors can't even push more than 1G without getting congested, what makes you think it can handle 100G?

So you're saying most 10gbps vps offer's are scam?

  • The closest you will get is with a cloud provider

No, you can burst at more than 1G but only on download or upload, not both. So, use cases like reverse proxy with hundreds or thousands of connections will lead to performance issues. You would find that it works much better on a dedicated server.

Using a VPS as a personal VPN should be fine though.

    seedbox ?

  • And where would you benchmark 100gbps line? Are there any public ones? And how reliable would it be

  • If you don’t push 1460 byte packets using TCP offloads in virtio, you will have a hard time moving more than 10 Gbps in a VM. If you have a 25/50 Gbps VM, performance is nowhere comparable to having the same link speed bare metal.

It is possible to provide 100 Gbps VMs using an openVswitch DPDK backend with vhost-user, instead of the normal virtio tap backend.

At LET pricing by no means economical. Not to speak of the risk associated.

  • Bro it's time to buy your own rack. You want 100gbps vps? Just tell me who do you want to ddos

I think the best you can get for LET pricing is 40Gbps VM from @advinservers Kansas

Please, I am curious. Denial of service? Protection against DoS? Some sort of mass port scanning?
I dreamed about such server once, you are not alone.

wtf you need 100Gbps for, and in a VPS of all things.

Only provider which I know that offers 100Gbps directly to the server is fdcservers, and thats also with tons of caveats.

Nuh, it got better and I've seen about 1% overhead with some hypervisors, well tuned of course.

There are also a lot of other very nerdy technical reasons why this is unattainable with our current technology, and other people are most likely more qualified than me to answers and explain.

Nuh, I don't think so, not even in ten or 20 years IMO.
    Some major reasons:

    • we're already very near the limit in terms of gate size
    • 25 and 40 Gb/s are well feasible, with some effort and fine tuning even on nodes, at a price of course.
    • keep in mind that nodes are general purpose computers (as opposed to switches, routers, etc.)
    • what for, except for some niche cases?
    • good luck getting even 25 Gb/s in a VM. Keep in mind that that means to achieve about 3 GB/s through the full stack, from processing data ... to pushing them out
    • and again: what for?
    • certainly not at prices even remotely digestable here on LET.

Btw, if I (or more realistically, a client) wanted to more or less fill a 25 Gb/s pipe I wouldn't even think about a VM but definitely get a dedi.
