Today they can ban you for supporting Israel, tomorrow, when the political agenda changes, for not supporting Israel.
Using the example of the Russia–Ukraine war. I collected how registrars reacted:
Namecheap – supported Ukraine
Stopped servicing all Russian customers, except anti-regime media.
GoDaddy – supported Ukraine
Stopped new sales of .ru domains, removed the Russian version of its website, and donated $500,000 for humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Cloudflare – partial support for Ukraine
Did not stop servicing Russian clients but provided cybersecurity services for free to Ukrainian organisations.
--
NameSilo – neutrality
Continues to accept payments from Russian banks (including sanctioned ones).
Does not interfere in legal matters without a court order.
Hostinger
Prohibits the use of services by residents of sanctioned countries and regions.
Strict compliance with U.S. and EU sanctions lists.
OnlyDomains + Marcaria
Continue to register and promote .ru domains.
OVH
Continued services to Russia since it has no infrastructure or employees in Russia or Ukraine.
Porkbun – unclear
There are conflicting reports about whether it stopped or continued servicing Russian clients.

How is donating to humanitarian aid of people who’s losing their family members, their houses, their jobs and their dignity as human beings considered ’supporting Ukraine’
They did not donate the same to Palestine, right?
I don’t want politics, I just don’t want to keep valued domains with a registrar that is politically biased in any way.
Ergo namecheap
Ergo godaddy
Positively noted and put on my whitelist
Ergo hostinger but that's theoretical anyway because why on earth would I be(come) a customer of them?
Noted, I'll leave.
Shows that I chose well when picking them as my preferred registrar. Not super-cheap (anymore) but decent.
Note: my position is not "whoever is pro ukrostan is bad", my position rather is "I expect companies to stay out of politics as far as any possible and to prefer/support no side".
For me, I use Dynadot for personal and business domains. I sometimes buy GoDaddy auctions but always transfer to Dynadot afterwards.
When I got my personal domain I used Internet.bs as was recommended here in 2013, initially to test my debit card as IBS was so cheap. But as IBS sold and increased their prices I transferred to Dynadot since they're cheaper now.
I don't want Cloudflare for domains to avoid excessive lock-in. Never bothered with Porkbun, and while Porkbun was cheaper Dynadot is cheaper by a few cents now.
Lesson: don't be loyal to domain registrars. Shop around.
So which domain registrar has the best transfer price? I found unstoppabledomains.com with a discount of $5 for transfers provided stay for a year.
First watching what happens in next 3 months. In 2026 they can change things, but who knows.
It was mostly about the prices.
Ah, I thought they were still using CF. My bad. They're really inconsistent with their enforcement, however.
In any case, still probably one of the more resilient companies, even if it's because they're likely collecting a bunch of traffic data to controversial sites like that.
There is a general sense in which such buyouts by mega-firms such as CVC aren't a good thing, because then the tendency is towards less competition overall. But this is how capitalistic systems work (for better or for worse)
At the same time, I don't see any reason to panic: if they raise prices significantly, they'll begin to lose domains to the competition -- I'm sure that they're aware of this
I've renewed number xyz domain to 10years for now.
What will you guys be switching to?
From what people have mentioned, DynaDot is looking like a great option for non-Cloudflare locked domains!
I think I will go for Porkbun.
Ah yes private equity invades the registrar business 🔥
So who goes next? Enom? Porkbun? Dynadot?
Enom/Tucows would be another multi billion deal.
Francisco
While i do like dyna and porkbun, personally i don't really pledge my firstborn blood to them, or any registrar at all. I move my domain around to whoever give the cheapest transfer fee deal, and the next time will be in ~2 months on black friday or cyber monday. I think icann are now preparing to reduce the 60 days mandatory lock after transfer to just 30 days so can transfer monthly if one wishes so. Some cctld like .uk doesn't even have any mandatory transfer lock, can transfer everyday lol
For now, I'll keep it on Namecheap. New registrations on Dynadot, until Namecrane starts registering
@Francisco when start domain business?
What should one do - renew for few years now, before they increase the prices?
sure. move to namecrane or inleed.
working on it guys
I'll hopefully get a test WHMCS up at some point soon so people can order/cancel/configure some domains on OTE.
Francisco
No rush, take your time.
INLEED MENTIONED LETS GO
Has anyone used https://1984.hosting? Would it be a good alternative to Namecheap?
$18 for a .com renewal seems a little bit to steep.
Dang..
I am using SpaceShip for two domains and their email service. No hosting though.
Service quality is good compared to others in same category
Was just going to ask if it was the same people as I've only heard about CVC when it's related to WebPros, that's bad for Namecheap customers, I'll just move mine out but loads of their customers don't know about the brilliant CVC...
So apparently, we should be ok according to their support
