Did .to tonic registry change WhoIs information stance?
in General
Until now, tonic registry domains .to didn't show full WhoIs info publically and hid away info such as registrar but now it seems to show like any other domain.
Example:
https://www.whois.com/whois/anihq.to
https://www.whois.com/whois/kaa.to

Comments
And the WhoIs page seems to be powered by TuCows now?
https://whois.tonicregistry.to/
Should've been ToCows.
Francisco
tucows is opensrs and some others.. maybe tucows is just running the whois under contract? i wasted a few minutes searching around and didn't find any real info, did they turn to tucows after the register.to guy croaked?
edit: both the domains you listed seem pretty minimal info to me and seem to be companies, do you have a personal domain that shows more info in whois than you expected?
@zed yes it is minimal but earlier it didn't even used to show you registrar info, just creation, updation, expiration dates and nameservers
The registrar for everyone that buy from tonic is only say "kingdom of tonga", create/update/expire/ns
Those domain run their own whois server (whois.namecheap.com) for example. They are going to whois.namecheap.com for data, not tonic registry
This probably doesn’t have nothing to do with your question. But .to changed a lot. Is not the domain that is secure and safe heaven for Pirated Websites and more. This is why some domains by using .to are from ACE (you can search in Torrentfreak it exists and already happened.) in Pirate websites etc.
Tonic registrar have agreement with ACE/MPA and others to disclose your information easily and without court orders to big players. Even BREIN. Tonic already know that their domain is mostly used for “unwanted content” by lobbies and copyright holders. They know that, they are changing this might be one of reasons why this is starting to change. Also the enforcing of control of Data being introduced and Chat control, KYC and much more that will be forced in next few months or even this year, not only in Europe but also in US.
.to still reliable but not for everyone and not for all kind of things.
bluey, yeah i knew about namecheap doing so but I found many other registrars too
i guess they are doing the same
thanks!
I've heard this before, but what's the actual source for this claim?
Why are ACE stil using subpoenas if they already "have an angreement" with Tonic? Makes no sense.
I don’t know behind the scenes. But is clear that .to have an agreement with ACE/MPA. That is the reason why some .to domains are seized even without a court order. You know once something is used often they will be a next target from Copyright Holders and Anti-Piracy lobbies.
This is not recent but can help:

https://torrentfreak.com/piracy-giant-zoro-to-now-points-to-mpa-ace-seized-domain-nameservers-230713/
Do you think that nothing was improved? .to is being seized easily from 2022 to nowadays.
Obviously is not “public agreement”.
Nothing here implies any form of "secret agreement".
Tbh I think it's just a rumour.. First time I heard it was from the alexhost guy. I have no idea where he has heard it or if he's the original source of the rumour.
Which .to domains has been seized without a court order?
Why would they still go to court if they already have an agreement with Tonic?
