This is a part of our more robust VPS infrastructure we're starting to roll out
When we started, we only used RAID-1, and on some nodes, we implemented hardware RAID, thinking that would speed up I/O. While both of those are great, we've had the situation where both drives fail before they can be replaced, and we've had a few HW RAID cards have bitrot. We were also only running 1U servers and had only 4 drive bays.
In the future, we're deploying larger 2Us with plenty of drive bays, and we're running RAID-10 on all new host nodes.
We have parts on order for this week to build 5 more 2U host nodes, and plan to migrate all existing 1U host nodes into these once we get them set up.
So in a TLDR version:
We're working hard to keep improving. We also have a new developer joining the team later this month, so we should have some cool new features and be able to roll out new stuff quicker
