EPYC or Ryzen (or Intel) for a few WordPress sites?
Hi,
I need some input from seasoned pros on what to look for when choosing a decent VPS or semi-dedicated VPS.
I have 5 WP sites, 1 is my main site and the others are just starter sites.
I was on Hetzner shared CPX11 AMD 2c/2g for 12 months, it was a good and relatively fast experience when working on my main site.
I picked up a deal from another German host AMD EPYC 7443 4c/8g, performance is ok, noticeably slower. I have the 5 sites running on this.
Now I am actively working on the sites, and the performance is annoying me, so I am looking for another host.
I want to replace 2 plans costing €10 together.
I was looking through the threads, Netcupe and Hostbrr seem to offer good deals.
Netcup semi dedicated €11.41/m 8 core (4 dedicated) 8g and 256GB.
Or Hostbrrr Ryzen 9950X3D 2 dedicated 12gb 250GB €12
In real-world usage, which would be the better option for running a few WP sites, more cores EPYC or Ryzen?
Any other hosts in Europe also considered, I woild love a UK host with similar pricing but I haven't found one.
Input appreciated, thanks.

Depends on scale, for smaller websites Ryzen will be cheaper, for larger sites (judging by visitors metric), EPYC will be better (much more cores available, higher total memory bandwidth)
Ryzen FTW, reason is simple php being single threaded so faster core(s) is equal to faster response times.
I am thinking that too, Netcup have 4 dedicated cores plus 4 extra cores, it makes sense logically, but I keep seeing people mentioning Ryzen over EPYC for "performance".
You could host wordpress even on a raspberry pi. How much traffic do you got. What plugins do you use etc. We need more details. Your 9950x could be overkill
Unfortunately it is true, Ryzen has way cheaper single core performance, but at scale you would want more parallelism which is where server CPU (like EPYC) are extremely good at.
i tell you CPU is less important for hosting wordpress... or are your CPUs cores burning all time?
but mysql/mariadb loves fast disk IO and RAM for caching.
Aim for fast single core scores.
Depends, if it is woocommerce shop, you can' cache everything so cores are important a lot.
Yeah I was a little vague.
I am running Surecart with a surprising 42 plugins using Kadence theme.
Using ServerAvatar to manage the server, Litespeed with Redis.
Approx 1k visitors but I think 40% are bots.
