[Sponsorship Request] Computing Power for a College CS Club

MoofieMoofie Member
edited September 2025 in Requests

Hey everyone,

I'm the VP for a Computer Science Club at a local College, and we're trying to give our student members a place to really get their hands dirty with code.

We're on the hunt for a bit of computing power – ideally a small dedicated server that we could slice up for students to use. The goal is to let them host their own web apps, mess around with AI/ML projects, learn linux, and actually build up their portfolios.

A huge part of this would also be having a platform to host our Hackathon projects. Our members have a strong track record and have won several hackathons in the past, so it would be amazing to give these winning projects a proper home. This is great exposure for the students and, of course, for anyone who helps us out!

We'd be happy to give a huge shout-out on our club website and in our meetings in return.

If you're a provider, have some spare server space, or even just some ideas, feel free to reach out! I can also privately send a link to our club website & discord.

--

P.S: any industry professionals are also invited to talk to our club about the IT/Hosting/Software industry as well :)

We're located in New York, but anywhere in USA works great for us :)

Hey I like this, giving students the tools necessary for experimentation is essential.

but knowing colleges in the US, wouldn't even a local college have way more than enough funds to give you the resources? Have you talked to IT people at the college?

Fair point! Our community college budget prioritizes low tuition, so these resources aren't something our IT department or club is funded to provide.

Do you have any minimum requirements you'd be looking for on a box?

  • Your college should have a server room somewhere, ask IT if you can colocate a server in it.

Feel free to dm me, I have a ton of old servers that I would be happy to donate to run in your club room or for members to play around with.

    That's a great idea.

You might want to consider having everyone unlock the GitHub student pack and use their DigitalOcean credit. It should be enough for a year I think.

  • Students get tons of free cloud credits. Try azure or aws
