Hourly bare metal hosting for short term project?

Hey guys,

I'm looking for hourly billing bare metal for a WordPress/WooCommerce site. It's for event ticket booking that gets around 20k-30k visitors per day.

Only need the server for about 1-2 weeks at a time, then shut it down until the next event. Budget is around $70-$80 per week max.

Anyone know providers that do hourly billing and can handle this kind of traffic? Needs to be stable since it's for ticket sales.

Thanks!

20-30k visits per day, you should be fine on a VPS from Vultr or Digitalocean who have hourly billing. $70-80 per week is definitely sufficient, and you could get a beefy enough VM for that price.

  • Hetzner is the best option for this.

  • thanks for the suggestion, any recommendation of server spec for this kind of workload ? - maybe 8vCPUs and 16GB RAM would be enough?

If you are using caching then yes. If 30k will try to open your site at the same time it can crash, but you can use Cloudflare Waiting Room.

20k–30k visitors per day is not that much, but it depends on the number of concurrent visitors at a given time and how optimized your app is. If this is running on WordPress, then I would add more RAM just to be safe.

Ryzen CPUs bare metal from Hetzners server auction with hourly billing and no setup fees. Those should be good for your use cases, esp. the 9 5950x. E.g. with an hourly rate of US$0.1280, it would be US$ 21.5 for a week excl. VAT.

You would just have to test if the connection speed/latency is right for your targeted audience (e.g. probably not the right choice for Asia, but for Europe).

Thanks for sharing this, just check the Hetzners, this considers super affordable when they support hourly bill. yeah in terms of latency will be using the CDN, should be better in latency.

  • Yes, those server auction servers from Hetzner have hourly billing:

You get an invoice in Oct. for Sep. usage:

    • If you use a server the whole month of Sep. you get the monthly price.

    • If you use a server for less than a month in Sep., you pay hourly rate x hours. Afaik you can cancel those servers for end of a day.
