The Singapore VPS shootout, six providers
A bit late, I know, but here's my little present for Singapore's 60th birthday ![]()
The contenders: Contabo / @contabo_m, @onidel, @orangevps , @HostDZire / Leaseweb, @kuroit, and SiteHub / @HostDoc.
All based on recent (as in within about the past 6 months) benchmark series, unless I'm mistaken all or at least most of them published.
What you get to see here may look a bit meager, yet at the same time complicated, but don't worry, everything will be explained.
So, here are the numbers. Pricing and Details (e.g. disk size) based on LET promos or other official pricing and info. If in doubt, I took the values of the actual VPS I did benchmark.
| Metric | Contabo | Onidel | Orange | HDZ/LW | kuroit | SiteHub |
|-------------------------|-----------|-----------|-----------|-----------|-----------|-----------|
| approx $/mo | 6 | 4 | 2 | 2.3 | 4 | 3 |
| Traffic Vol/mo (TB) | 32 | 2 | 2 | 25 | 1 | 3 |
| Sysinfo | 4CE, 8G | 2CE, 4G | 1CX5v4, 2G| 4CE, 6G | 2CE, 4G | 2CRy, 3G |
| Disk | 200 GB | 40 GB | 30 GB | 100 GB | 30 GB | 20 GB |
| Sysinfo Value | 640,107 | 32,8 | 6,3 | 240,104 | 24,6 | 12,4 |
| Perf. CPU, Dsk. | 83,5,13 | 78,55,140 | 54,21,55 | 90,20,50 | 77,30,75 | 91,97,248 |
| **Perf. Value** | 90 | 15015 | 3119 | 3913 | 4331 | 72970 |
| Target DL [Mbps] | DL | DL | DL | DL | DL | DL |
| === Europe === [Avg] | 63.7 | 70.0 | 57.9 | 61.6 | 63.9 | 38.2 |
| === ASOC === [Avg] | 120.5 | 272.2 | 175.6 | 357.0 | 421.5 | 206.9 |
| === ASOC === [w/o SGP] | 93.4 | 136.0 | 114.8 | 76.9 | 132.1 | 95.8 |
| === America === [Avg] | 40.2 | 46.1 | 46.9 | 55.2 | 46.1 | 46.9 |
| Perf. Conn. | 73 | 97 | 84 | 68 | 94 | 69 |
| Value Conn. | 12 | 24 | 42 | 29 | 23 | 23 |
| **Val Conn. + Tvol.** | 2326 | 194 | 167 | 1691 | 94 | 208 |
Note: Contabo bandwidth is limited at 200 Mb/s.
Explanation & Legend.
- 'Traffic Vol/mo' is how much traffic volume you get per month, in TB
- 'Sysinfo Value' is cores x GB RAM x disk/10, comma, the Value / $per month. Obviously the higher the latter the better bang per buck (in terms of what you get).
- 'Perf. CPU, Dsk.' is the total HW performance you get, based on the CPU results and the disk MB/s and IOps
- 'Perf. Value' is basically the above but showing bang per buck. Here e.g. Contabo doesn't look that good due to the poor disk performance. In short: you want numbers as high as possible here because high numbers here mean that you get a lot of performance for your money.
- Connectivity numbers are "compressed" into an average number for each region. 'ASOC' means Asia and Oceania. Note that for ASOC you get the "dumb" avg. (incl SGP) and the avg without the SGP result. Why? Because most care about general ASOC results, not "pimped up" by high intra SGP numbers.
- 'Perf. Conn' is the average of Europe, ASOC, and America, but with ASOC counted twice. Why? Because one typically gets a SGP VPS for ASOC connectivity. At the same time though global connectivity still does matter, just less than ASOC results.
- ' Val Conn.+ Tvol.' is the connectivity performance but in terms of bang per buck by also bringing in traffic volume because at the end of the day the best connectivity means little without having a decent traffic volume.
Added Explanation and hints:
Using the above table you are able to pick the VPS that's just right for your needs and/or use case. One use case is mine for an example: for me in SGP it's all about connectivity plus traffic volume, so I would go for Contabo because its connectivity is way less bad than one would assume plus one gets plenty traffic volume - but there's a big fat but, in fact even 2: (a) 200 Mb/s doesn't cut it anymore, and (b) while I don't care much about HW performance, a VPS with really crappy disk performance is disqualified (for me). Ergo, @HostDZire because its connectivity is really decent although not leading, their traffic volume is almost as insane as Contabo's and HostDZire's hardware performance as well as bang per buck is exceptionally good.
But don't be misled! Maybe your use case can live with modest traffic volume but needs the bloody fastest connectivity one can get. Or you, Singapore or not, really need the fastest hardware possible, maybe you even don't (need to) care about cost.
My preferred SGP VPS are
- Obviously HostDZire / Leaseweb
- Onidel and (a bit behind) kuroit because overall they deliver the best performance, albeit at a price.
- SiteHub as a newcomer due to their outstanding hardware performance bang per buck value
Contabo is not in the list although, again, their VPS is way less crappy than one would assume, but their bandwidth limit is way too low plus their price is way too high nowadays.
It's just a very modest birthday present, Singapore, but I sincerely wish you a happy birthday and many more good decades! ![]()
Edit: I'm awfully sorry for the crappy formatting. Apologies.
Mod edit (angstrom): replaced original table with nicely formatted table from @stvna 's comment below

Comments
Fixed formatting
AI organized the data into a table and created visualizations.
Did the charts come out correctly?
Thank you so much !
Unfortunately though, I can't edit it anymore, but maybe, hopefully @angstrom is kind enough to edit my OP ( and putting your nicely formatted table instead of mine)..
Replaced table
I expect a Malaysian VPS shootout for Malaysia independence day /s
Cheers to my SG bros!
@contabo_m @onidel @orangevps @HostDZire @HostDoc
wait
does sitehub provide SGP VPS?
I do not even have a single one nor had I ever the opportunity to test one.
@hudsonsir
Thank you as well but thanks to @stvna (and helpful @angstrom) there already is a well readable table.
Maybe we can feature if you do another shootout in the future
which Orange, SiteHub?
Sorry, I simply didn't have you on my radar. But I'm willing to benchmark and review any providers VPS/VDS. All they need to do is to give me access for a week.
If you are quick and this shootout still is halfway fresh I can even put your SGP VPS in context here in this thread.
who has the best singapre vps with excellent ddos protection ? for game servers ...
Vibegames , Gcore , Curt Creation
I didn't look for that but my first hunch would be @onidel and @HostDZire / Leaseweb.
@jsg Thank you for recommending us.
But i must say below,
Leaseweb do have basic DDOS protection, but its nowhere excellent, they simply null ip when ddos comes automatically for few min then un-null again after sometime.
They do not filter DDOS.
@clockbooster So i think you should find any other provider who has ddos protection clearly stated which works 24/7 not by nulling ip but by filtering DDOS traffic..
good to hear that what i need ....
thanks
thanks
amazing post, bunches of info for reference
Merdeka Day sale confirm?
can you please add GreenCloud Singapore DC2 in your next review.
If I have a SGP VPS from them, yes, of course (and it's not unlikely because I like them). Currently though I don't have such a System.
This is nice. Thanks for your service 🫡
31 August is fast approaching 😏. Advin Johor server gonna be number 1 😎
a amazing post,thanks
It's nice that you put small provider like OrangeVPS to stand with other big providers! It will help the visitor to understand our performance before decided to purchase VPS from us.
Also, we have AMD EPYC Milan in SG and HK that may help "increase" a little of this number benchmark. Please open ticket so we can add the VPS under your account.
Thanks again @jsg for this beautiful benchmark
You are welcome.
But with just one single HongKong VPS (yours) I couldn't do a shootout/review, but I'm willing to benchmark and review your HK VPS independently
@speedypage Your Singapore products haven't been discounted for a long time, or did I miss your event?
