IXP VPS in South America/Africa/Asia

tentortentor Member, Host Rep

Looking for tiny IXP VPSes in:

  • South America;
  • Africa;
  • Asia.

Any country in any the specified regions is fine, IXP must have AS6939.

VPS specs could be as low as 1 vCPU / 512MiB RAM / 10GiB drive, but no HDD! Don't need much bandwidth, 100 GB-1TB is completely fine.

Budget is €50/year for each VPS. Payment method cryptocurrency (BTC, LTC, BCH, XMR)

I can get you at https://www.peeringdb.com/net/16902

IX at Teraco CPT (NAPAfrica) which has HE

    Host doesn't do crypto tho

    Maybe @Zappie instead?

    https://zappiehost.com/south-africa-datacenter-network

    Lists Teraco and takes BTC

Crypto is preferred but not strict requirement, forgot to specify that. I am interested, let's DM

I know they do BGP VMs but not sure if IXP VMs are possible, there is a significant difference between these

They did offered VMs once trough https://store.twds.com.tw
But don't think they still do that.
Even if, price started at $40-50/month, soo... tentor needs to increase his budget a lot!

In general, if he finds even one, I'd already be surprised.
The number of providers that offer IX access on VMs is very limited, and IXs that provide free ports are even rarer, in those regions I could probably count them on one hand.
And then there's the additional restriction of cryptocurrency-only payments?

I don't think this is going to happen, sorry.

We can provide IXP VPS to connect to:

in the Asia/Jakarta region. Unfortunately, only DE-CIX Jakarta has AS6939.

These IXPs look very big and it is strange to me that AS6939 is present only in DE-CIX Jakarta. Anyway I am interested, JKT-IX looks promising, what is the price and where to sign up?

  • tentortentor Member, Host Rep

I think I could lax requirements a bit down to a BGP VM that allows at least to be able to selectively announce route to specific networks (IXPs in my case and maaaybe AS6939 if present).

Hi, How much bandwidth do you need? We'll first ask DE-CIX sales. Regarding interconnection, we charge Rp200.000 per month exclude fees at the IXP, and we use Rupiah as our currency.

Bandwidth requirements are very low, anything up to 1TB/month is sufficient, port speed also could be limited even to 10Mbit/s

We are members of both AF-CIX and IXPN in Nigeria both of which have HE in mix.
We do not offer IXP VPS but can propagate your prefix's to select members that we directly peer with including AS6939.

We do support BGP announcing as an add-on (+$35/month)
You can add it at a VPS configuration step

    For the price, yea kinda.
Like, in general you might find some providers who are willing to offer you a BGP session for free. But the region alone is alone is already really limiting.

A IX port is definitely out of budget unless they really want to do you a favor, especially in that region.
Even if, you also forget that most IX ask for a membership fee or don't even support multiple members on a single port. Soo, that would disqualify even more candidates.

Maybe worth going through https://bgp.services and contact some providers there.
But don't think it will be easy.

Think this board is more for EU and US deals, the countries you are interested in are speaking brazil, spanish, so this is the main reason all the small providers which are participating in the IXP's are not using it.

When you take a look at the HE.net exchange page (be ready to overload your browser, the list is huge.... https://bgp.he.net/report/exchanges), than you can see that Brazil is the top country for IXP participant's. Still wonder why this is such a huge difference, but seems there are many small providers and not so much big players as in the rest of the world.

I would just write some mails and asking for your request to the top providers.
