Got an idler or unused storage? Help preserve Anna’s Archive

If you have free space and a stable internet connection, you can help preserve Anna’s Archive by downloading and seeding its datasets. These files contain the library’s contents and allow it to be rebuilt or accessed even if the main site goes offline.
You can still help by seeding 10gb or less, just enter a value of 0.01 or less in the filter.
How to download and seed datasets
- Go to https://open-slum.org — it lists all live shadow library mirrors.
- Click the link to Anna’s Archive from there.
- Navigate to the Torrents section of Anna’s Archive.
- Use the size filter at the top of the torrent list to only show datasets that will fit your available space.
- Download and open the torrent file(s) in your torrent program.
- Keep seeding to help keep the library alive.
Use Anna’s Torrents by cparthiv
This tool lets you download torrents up to your set storage limit without having to filter manually: https://github.com/cparthiv/annas-torrents
- Install Python from https://www.python.org/downloads/
- Download the program from the GitHub link above (click the green “Code” button → “Download ZIP” or use Git).
- Extract the ZIP file to a folder.
- Open a command prompt/terminal in that folder.
- Run: python main.py
Follow the on-screen prompts:
- Enter how many terabytes (TB) you want to download.
- Confirm your choice.
- Torrents will be saved into a /torrents directory (created automatically).
Add those torrents to your torrent program and seed them to help keep the library alive.

If you're looking for torrent client with vpn integration you can check out hotio/qbittorrent, for cpu/ram constrained vps you can use rtorrent in cli. Suggestions are welcome.

And what, pray tell, does Anna’s Archive contain and why should we care about this one in particular? From what I can tell, it just seems to be full of pirated books.

Keeping books and access to information should be free.
People should educate themselves with their help, and unfortunately, in some countries, the cost of a book is expensive.
Yeah this should be the top information, otherwise it's shady to suggest publicly lending space to some anonymous source.
Looks like people should be careful and host it only on "DMCA ignore" servers.
They should go the semi/full private tracker route so that people can seed from regular VPS or home safely.
very hard subjective question. I care about shadow library projects because I once get help from it before, so i decided to seed the books only that i care for, or if I heard my friend needs to get certain books so I'll just seed the collections that have that book.
i like the idea to access it more obscurely but given the current trend this is very high unlikely, at very least i haven't heard that the angy publisher went to send takedown notices to vps providers (yet) because their IP range was found on the seeding pool
that being said, it is really a bad idea to seed this from your home connections. if anyone interested i can give my usual setup (qbitorrent+nyr's wireguard) that i particularly use for this kind of things
books being freely accessible for free is le bad! the population are harder to deceive if they're literate! sorry, my tinfoil hat was on.
my personal anecdote in this matter is, while the stereotype that third world country having harder time to access certain material, this practice also exists in first world country. i'm not saying everyone in first world country can afford books with ease, but it's always frequent that their professor in uni/college warns them not to visit scihub or libgen if they're struggling to afford a book.
i understand currently my opinion is still self-centered, very opinionated with "publisher want big money bad" without considerations with the books author. I did tried to send emails to the author which book i was pirated on during my college years. their replies are varying. such as, telling me i'm misled if i had to purchase the book from the publisher that happens to be the college "recommended" one, telling me i have to buy one once i have income with lighthearted language (which eventually i did), or just a very short reply that what i'm doing is acceptable and they're happy the books helps. so, overall, with my experience i'd still happy to have shadow library around
I have a purevpn lifetime membership that expires in 2080 or something with port forwarding support.
For each idler, i might use gluetun + qbittorrent, and seed as much as possible i guess 😂
Only thing though is I absolutely hate setting up gluetun and qbittorrent. Each time, i have to do hours of troubleshooting to get it working 😭
Yes. And it also contains the most comprehensive metadata of all works to ever exist, and growing. I see it as very important from a preservation standpoint. We yet live in an era where powerful groups want "undesirable" knowledge to be destroyed and history to be rewritten.
man that's some crazy vpn deals you got over there. for your setup, is it not using docker or podman for reproducibility?. Ideally you only want to setup once, and for the next deployment you only update or change the vpn credentials if needed.
TIL qbittorrent-with-gluetun-vpn, gluetun-qbittorrent. pretty interesting
it's a sad state of affair. but i hope we still have enough people to keep it afloat, just like thepiratebay has been going so far
