Looking for a VDS as a desktop replacement (possibly trade with someone too)

Hi, I'm currently daily driving a 2008 iMac, but due to how old the macOS version I'm on is (El Capitan), more than 75% of websites simply don't work anymore and return "NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID." Most software is not supported anymore, and I do not want to use opencore. Because of that, I've been using a VPS with Jump Desktop as a desktop replacement for coding, writing, general browsing, etc.

I'm tempted to switch because the amount of issues I've had over the past month makes me not trust the service as much anymore. Backups never worked from the start, I had a failed motherboard/CPU, random reboots have caused stability issues, and after the most recent downtime, they moved me to a server with a different CPU without any notice. I asked about it, and I’m now back on a 9900X.

I get that shit happens, and apparently they’re working on fixing the problems, but I want to see what other options are out there, preferably a VDS. Guaranteed performance, and I don’t like having to babysit my CPU usage and would really prefer something I can just use without worrying about that. Also, my needs fluctuate overtime, and sometimes I might end up utilizing more CPU usage for a period of time that would not be allowed on a VPS.

Original specs of my server were: 6 cores (9900X), 16GB RAM, 350GB SSD, and it costs around $10/month in Los Angeles (without the bandwidth upgrade). If anyone wants to trade that for a VDS, feel free to DM. I know with a VDS, 6 cores is not possible at that price, and that’s fine. I can compromise on RAM and maybe even storage.

Ideally, I'd like the GB6 single core score to be over 2000 if possible. As for location, US is fine, but US-West is preferred.

If anyone has a VDS they’d like to trade for this, feel free to DM me. Or a link to previous server offers that are still valid?
Or if you're a provider and have something with similar pricing, I’m interested!

Thank you

It seems like @berohost would give their root server offer of 9950X

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think they have servers in the US

  • informaten has a root servers (i think its similar to netcup root servers) and currently they had a summer deals sale. but they're based in germany though

To clarify, i’m not offering a VDS, i’m looking for one. From a provider directly, or if someone is interested in my 9900x VPS above, by trading i guess?

  • I helped someone get on Microsoft Cloud PC for a remote worker for part time virtual assistant. This is never a better solution than having the better machine in person.

In other words, invest in replacing your 2008 MAC instead of another VDS.

Do you need macOS? Maybe you could install Linux

  • People have started paying silly money for old Macs now. Might be worth checking what a 2008 iMac goes for on eBay because you might be able to get enough for a refurbished replacement that can at least open websites.

  • if it doesnt support updates, then its useless to buy one.

  • Netcup root server is the only one I'd use for everything if I had to. If not then I'll always be a bit wary about what I'm doing because it's human nature to be nosey but Germans are relatively square and secure. I'm sure they have us locations

  • Cant you dual boot MAC and Windows?
