What's the best alternative to WHMCS that's open source, has good community, supports custom modules (will be happy to contribute to Open Source as well)

Just wanted to know

    https://paymenter.org/ and https://fossbilling.org/

I'm still trying to determine which one may be suitable for some sponsorship, as I'd like to eventually use one or the other for a different project.

I did like paymenter (idk why may be ui) the last time I was going through,

I will still like to see these over a new tech Stack , I see php and I kind of don't prefer it

99% of Blesta’s code is open source

Definitely Paymenter. Corwin is actively working on adding new features, does fix bugs very fast and also community is helpful.

Foss development is rather.. slow, not much happen in their repo, not really usable project right now comparing to Paymenter.

It is, but you can't commit your code changes to core blesta repo. Also having open source means that it should be free, but Blesta is paid and you need to pay monthly for license.
Did I told that development is slow? Yeah, hella slow. There are few pull requests from people on GitHub for over few years and no code review nor any action...

  • Currently, there is no truly effective system, and all of them have some flaws to varying degrees.

Blesta is great if you're starting from scratch -- it's a nightmare if you have pre-existing data to import.

Development is very slow, support is hit and miss at best... but if you know what you're doing you can just hook it out and put your own overrides in. I think most things can be overwritten including admin views, default views, etc. and their callbacks.

There are no software which are comply with Europe rules such as E-Invoicing or Credit Note (refund), and many more. I am not pretty sure but I think only HostBill have that or UpMind.

For me, Blesta it does it's job very well for what I need. If you don't have a good knowledge in programming might be a not good choice for some people.

Now, get back on slow development and take a look into this, https://requests.whmcs.com/idea/add-electronic-invoicing

    Good luck!

Where did you get that idea from? "free" in foss is freedom free, not $$ cost free.

    https://paymenter.org/ - looks usable.

    E-Invoicing for Romania:

    https://marketplace.whmcs.com/product/7226-whmcs-e-factura-romania - it actually works.

On the other hand, I am pretty fed up with faulty software, bug fixes and slow adoption of features, but that might just be me. :)

  • I can't help but wonder if there are any high-performance solutions other than PHP in this world, such as Go or Rust, that don't require starting from scratch.

If you have any questions, etc. - the Discord server is quite active, and I'm sure any of the team members would be happy to talk.

I think it's a little unfair to say nothing is happening and it's not really usable. There have been quite a few changes recently, and the project is used by a number of people.

How that compares to Paymenter is not for me to comment on; I wish them all the best and I'm glad there are multiple FOSS options available.

I'm sorry you feel that way - if you still have any issues, let me know.

However, right now a lot of work is going into rewriting/modernising the core code inherited from BoxBilling, which isn't the simplest task and isn't the type of thing that is easily seen. The hope is that the investment in this foundational work will pay off in the long-term.

  • @adly FOSSBilling indeed looks very neat! All the best.

@host_c you pay for something which it should be by default since is an Europe requirement, and their company are aswell based in Europe since I use to pay their bill, or they moved out to US?

    Are these words for WHMCS?

Blesta works well, they are just very limited in some things and they don't want to fix it. They released a version a day ago, 5.12, and it looks promising. They also released the update to migrate whmcs version 8.x.

  • I think I asked OSS why blesta is even here?

  • zmeuzmeu Member

There’s no best alternative, neither as open source. Some may be good on paper.
