From OVH's proactive and significant price reduction theory

OVH has proactively reduced the price of its 32GB memory servers to a standard rate of €9.90. The price of 4-core 8GB VPS servers has been reduced to €3.80 for annual contracts.
This is likely to prompt other providers to passively reduce their prices to retain users. Going forward, the server market, particularly the VPS market, will be very favorable for users.

yeah.. i would ditch digital ocean, vultr, linode, aws lightsail if I can get 4CPU for below $5

Most users will first choose larger merchants, and currently, large merchants do not offer low prices. However, OVH has broken with convention and standardised a price of 3.8 euros per month for a 4-core 8G annual contract. Other merchants will be forced to lower their prices.

When you compare the equivalent configs of the providers you mentioned OVH is more than 4x cheaper. Question is if things like performance, stability and network quality make up for this kind of difference in price?

  • If you include vat, there isnt much difference after.

    Vultr 4 core, 8GB ram, 160 GB disk - $40/mo
    DigitalOcean 4 core, 8GB ram, 160GB disk - $48/mo
    Linode 4 core, 8GB ram, 160GB disk - $48/mo
    Lightsail 2 core, 8GB ram, 160GB disk - $44/mo
    OVH - 4 core, 8GB ram, 175GB disk - $10/mo

  • Many cloud providers are just overpriced.

    Geekbench means nothing.
I've seen myself vps with geekbench6 score around 5-6k that were outperformed by 100% in real life scenarios by old Xeon 1245v2 (CPU heavy tasks).

OVH is the largest (and one serious) cloud provider which started in EU and the main market for them is EU.

In Europe the only competitor for them in dedi market was Hetzner however Hetzner increased their prices in the past years so the only one in the cheapest range is OVH.

They probably want to get out the maximum money from their services and instead of work with high prices, try to get highest number of customers. And with these prices a high number of servers are idling, however they get passive 10 euros per month for them instead sitting them in a server room without any usage.

OVH is a profit-based company so they want to see money from their services but I never forget that since 2022 KS-LE-1 with SSDs they gave the possibility to get a dedi on an unbeatable price. Until I was a student the 15--20 euro was the maximum that I could spend for this hobby and OVH gave the oportunity to rent a dedi where I could virtualize and do many many things, replacing my home server.

thanks for this avesome community to called my attention in 2022 for KS-LE-1 and thanks OVH for excellent offers!

I want them to bring back the $1/mo VPS.

With low price provider will attract a lot of scum. It will taint IP pool very fast. Pricing deter scum most effectivelly.

  • It is quite hard to register a Singapore VPS, bro.

It's also possible that they want to bring down their cheap dedicated servers, so they can save power and space. VPS-3 easily beats the KS-C in price to performance. So maybe some user's are willing to switch to a vps. Also they are "available" in more regions.

  • Where can I find some YABS of the new VPS plans?

Not every company had the benefit of millions of government funding in the early days to get them started and build the brand across Europe mostly and to expand, other companies need finance and investors, they had the French gov to start mostly and if you have unlimited money its easy to build that brand.
