Seeking Provider that does not require a phone number.
The assumption in some providers billing software/registration pages that the end customer in fact must have a phone number and if not are not allowed services is a bit ridicules.
That is some of you providers out there assume that everyone who wants to use your service has a contract with another 3rd party that provides them with a phone number that
will be given to someone else when their contract is up heaved, a contract with a 3rd party that can intercept or deny (transparently or secretively) your attempts to contact sed customer,
a 3rd party that's been obsolete with the advent of the internet, texting and calling can be and in many parts of the world is mostly done through online messengers and less and less
through the traditional phone system, even a "phone call" can be done over your mobile data plan instead of the phone system, not everyone has or wants to have a phone number.
Requirements are simple, seeking provider that does not makes such assumptions.

Just input whatever you feel like to as a phone number
Is it (verifying/confirming phone number) a common thing?
WTH???? we never do kyc or even phone checks
You seek a lot of unusual things from a provider, I wonder if you're on a list yet.
At least Yuki_ didn't ask for residential proxies (yet?)
I've only seen aws & oracle do it.
I don't think any provider dials your phone number. you can input any fancy number. Unless they send OTP/SMS text to verify. But its not with LE providers. Yeah, Godaddy has this if you enable 2FA.

@FlorinMarian has (had?) DC at home but under own ASN which disqualifies him from "residential proxy" league, so I don't agree with your point here
We don’t verify phone numbers on signup. If you’d prefer not to use your real number, you can simply enter something like 5555555 and it’ll work fine.
Can you think of any legitimate reason to seek out a server that is hosted in somebody's apartment?
me when +1 000 000 0001
I don't see how it differs from colo at proper DC other than less price/redundancy/SLA and how it enables crime.
With @servers_guru , all you need is just a working email address.
Well I never said anything about enabling crime but frankly my guess would be that they're targeting inexperienced/vulnerable providers
Arguably, running own DC at home requires more skill xD
But now I see your point.
Some random number will do, until they actually want to verify it.
Onidel is the only one here that I know of that sends a code to verify phone number.
You can put the yoursunny summer host phone number: +46 766-86-84-36
Most provider don't require a valid phone number...only if you need 2FA SMS or something like that.
Just enter any phone number there and should be fine.
Exactly. Most providers don't require a phone number from what I have seen over the years.
Nobody is actually going to call that number - just put +1-800-555-4321 .. Always have done this with ZERO issues... That phone number is just to fill in the client profile / for professional invoices you might use on your taxes - it's not used by any host I know of...
99.99% of billing systems just ask for it by default unless the host makes their own panel - which not many do - so good luck with that ... again --- put whatever you want - nobody is going to call and verify it.
@seflow would like to say hi.
Full KYC they say.
their choice ig
My understanding is that when I agree to the TOS on most providers it would state that I am responsible for keeping the information up to date and failure to do so would indicate a breach of conditions and allow the provider to suspend my VPS at any moment if I am not able to verify the phone number is my own. While in reality this doesn't happen with most providers it still gives leverage to another party that I feel wouldn't be necessary, hence why I am asking. I also thought presenting yourself under false information when entering into a contract with a provider was illegal, does this not also pertain to the phone number?
If you'd like to know its about the trust worthiness of the persons attending the server I would much less trust some random data center employee then the contact person at the provider I am having a conversation with.
I myself think my requests are pretty reasonable. I also wonder sometimes :-)
We care more about the accuracy of the name and address on the account. The email and phone are just for communication purposes. As long as you have a valid email we can use to reach you, there’s no requirement for a real phone number — at least that’s how we handle it.
not unreasonable, just unusual :P
The boy has difficult tastes...
