OPLink is an OG, and has existed long before PV even has. It won't happen.
Anyway, most companies upgrade hardware over time regardless. The only difference here is he's making a post about it.

I can't wait to see the ExtraVM post about Sydney 7900 upgrade to 9950X3D

    The trend I see is,

    1. Upgrade the server.
    2. Offer people to move to the new package for free.
    3. Then discontinue the old package where the customer was in.
    4. Ask the customer to opt for new price structure or his instance will be shut down within x, y, z months.

Call me negative but seeing this too often that I generally become sceptical when someone says upgrade.

Yup. When you become a part of that chain and have to pay the increased price, you tend to become negative.

  • Great generous move, I guess you never got the 7950x nodes 100% stable then?

Always stable minus a few nvme failures. Some of the early Samsung 990 nvme drives had some bad firmware from the factory. Plus the 9950x came out and its the better option. Plus the cost between the 7950x vs 9550x is only ~$50 for the CPU.

Most of our 9950x nodes are all on samsung 9100 nvmes now.

We have no intent to do this. Sorry you had a shady past experience.

  • @oplink not asking for upgrades (happily with 9 3900) but will those eventually get an upgrade? if 7950X nodes are idling now :p

No plans to upgrade 3900x at this time. 3900x is the budget friendly line we had for a before 7950x or 9950x hit market. No 7950x nodes are idle. Most 7950x nodes were in services for 1-2yrs so its just good to refresh things. We replaced the cpus and nvme drives where they were needed.

3900x is hidden from our main website but still avail via https://my.oplink.net/store/amd-ryzen-3900x-vps
