FOSSVPS.org needs another dedicated server plus a few extra IPv4s and IPv6, please
Hello!
A few days ago I started FOSSVPS.
The FOSSVPS startup thread is here.
So far, FOSSVPS has received dedicated server donations from @fmxm, @dan_onlyservers, and @alexhost.
VPSes already have been given away on the @fmxm server in Los Angeles.
The OnlyServers server in London is at the moment being used by @babywhale, of BashVM open source fame, to better adapt BashVM to creating macvtap VPSes.
The Alexhost server in Moldova is unavailable at the moment because several of its eight disks are being replaced and because the server will need to be reinstalled and tested.
VPSes will be given away on the OnlyServers London server and on the Alexhost server as soon as they are ready.
Meanwhile, I would love another server on which to try installing macvtap VPSes by hand with qemu, libvirt, and cloud-init. Please see:
https://cloudinit.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tutorial/qemu.html
https://cloudinit.readthedocs.io/en/latest/howto/launch_libvirt.html#launch-libvirt
FOSSVPS' primary intention is to give away free VPSes on the new server as well as on the three existing servers.
Another goal is to support Low End Talk by increasing the opportunities for technical discussion and learning here at LET.
Hopefully, the discussions here also will help Provider donors gain additional recognition and appreciation throughout the Low End community.
Is there a Provider or other benefactor able to donate another dedicated server with a few extra IPv4s and IPv6, please?
Location can be anywhere. FOSSVPS VPSes should be everywhere.
Thanks yet again to FOSSVPS' kind existing donors, @fmxm, OnlyServers, and Alexhost! ![]()
Best wishes!
Tom

Hey folks!
Guess who is faster than fast!!?? Answer exists in my PM mailbox, new server almost in hand, expected to be live and also posted soon! But, no rush, no worries!
Don't mean to tempt fate by being too greedy, but, does any other Provider also wish to donate at this time?
Does anyone wish to join the FOSSVPS staff?
Thanks so much!
Tom
Dear friends, I am very much looking forward to joining the FOSSVPS team. I wonder what the requirements are and how can I get a free server?
Hello @naxuhf!
If you are thinking about joining the FOSSVPS staff, please send an email to the address on my profile. Please tell me about your Linux experience. You could include a resume or a link to your website or source repository,
If you are just interested in getting a free VPS, please watch the FOSSVPS threads and post.
Right now we have nine guys using our Los Angeles node from @fmxm.
We do not expect to add more users in Los Angeles. But FOSSVPS does want more users of free VPSes all over the world. Now there already are nine, soon a hundred, before long a thousand!
Today two more server nodes are being prepared and tested. One is in England, from OnllyServers,
and the other is in Moldova, from Alexhost.
@babywhale is preparing the OnlyServers server,
and I just now got the first test VPS running in Moldova. So, hopefully it won't be too long until we are ready to give out more VPSes.
Additionally, another provider mentioned to me that he was preparing to donate a server. He had a specific server in mind, and we talked about it, so FOSSVPS hopes to add yet another server soon.
Last but not least, a member with -- let's call it -- credibility from the early days of the internet -- just sent $50 to the MetalVPS Paypal. FOSSVPS needs to get formally registered before it can have its own bank account and Paypal account. The initial registration seems to cost about $200. I could use about another $60 or more in donations. For legal reasons related to non-profit accounting and tax reporting, if I understand right, FOSSVPS needs the majority of contributions to come from members of the public other than me. So, if another person or two would be willing to contribute to the costs of registering FOSSVPS as a non-profit corporation, that would be super great!
Best wishes!
Tom
