I backup my VPS, and YOU ?

I BACKUP all my VPS, all days, on second harddisk from dedicated, then on CLOUD storage via LFTPS, then to HOME (not all days if not important).
In case of VPS providers i backup regulary with it's panel (notice on these VPS i have nothing really private), and important files to CLOUD, & HOME when needed (if real big change).
And You ?

Your choice !

I have 5 storage servers (ranging from 1TB-10TB) that are just used as borgbackup targets, and 2 of my 3 dedis also have 1+TB spare on their 2 TB drives, so they both have VMs used as backup targets.

Every VPS (either from a provider or a VM on one of my dedis) is backed up to at least 3 of these 7 targets. The important things like my git repositories, web sites, e-mail, main DB for web app, etc are backed up to most of them.

  • i have AM and PM backups, to 2 different locations on odd/even days.

I think the more important question is do you test your backup and what are the things you are backing up?

  • Backups are very crucial for sure, you should always have off site backups of your sites, vms and other projects. Daily backups could be sufficient.

For real, my backup script seemed to work fine then broke afterwards.

This is an other topic subject to do. ;)
If people don't test restoring, they don't need backup.
Sure sometime you have to make a restore test.
I make that from time to time, especially for raw windows disk under proxmox to defrag them.
It need generaly only a few minutes.
I do even testing business recovery plan from zero start to be sure it's ok.
