Uptimerobot issues

Hi,
Is anyone noticing issues with Uptimerobot?
Apparently their Heartbeat Handler is down over 24h but see no communication from their team.
I also was not able to login recently.

Yes. The stats page wasn't working recently.
Right now, it shows 6 of my VPSes (UK, DE, and NL located) as down (ping check), even though they’re actually up.

  • OK, good to know I'm the only one.
But I find it super strange.
Their whole point is to be reliable so one can depend on them.
But the fact that one of their systems is down over 24h and no communication was made baffles me.

    We're building a free alternative.

  • I got an email from them that my site went down about an hour ago but my site never went down according to other monitoring tools.

  • HetrixTools FTW.

I've accidentally joined theirs Discord, they are aware and working it according to posts there by person named alex that has nice named & colorful role 'UptimeRobot' so I assume staff.

Yeah, I also use a Self-hosted Uptime Kuma as a secondary monitoring and also says there are no issues.

    That is cool!
But there are a few other alternatives.
If you can, focus on reliability and resilience. If people can trust your status is correct and dependable they might switch (even for a paid option)

  • We received several false reports today. Few minutes ago starts to works fine again.

Really wonder what could have happened.

[22:45]alex: So here's the info / root cause I promised before:

    Prolonged Monitoring of Inactive Accounts:
Our system has continued to monitor user-configured endpoints, regardless of their age. This includes accounts set up over a decade ago, which may have long been abandoned by users. Some endpoints or IP addresses may no longer exist, yet they remain under active monitoring. We plan to address this soon by ceasing monitoring for endpoints that have been down for an extended period.

    Unannounced BGPs:
Following the above point, some BGPs have been decommissioned or are no longer announced. This situation has led one of our hosting providers to perceive our activities as indiscriminate network scanning or an abuse of servers.

    Impact and Mitigation:
Reduced Capacity in the EU Region:
This issue has caused a significant reduction in our capacity, specifically a 45% decrease in the EU region. Although we are equipped to manage capacity fluctuations, this particular decrease was more severe than anticipated.

    Upcoming Changes:
We are in the process of expanding our network by incorporating additional providers. This change will enhance capacity and improve redundancy across all regions, (North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania). Expect an email from our team regarding these updates soon.

So who banned them? Hetzner? :D

  • Who checks the controllers ?

I get false positives every couple of months or so, hard to say for sure it's not just them being more sensitive to a real micro outage, but I now treat them purely as a an extra set of eyes.

  • They were under a DDoS, they are active on their discord channel

  • Seems like they're still hosed. Getting notifications for several services that are reported down when they are most certainly up and problem-free.
