How do you offer 1vCPU and 2GB RAM for free with just a email needed? Make it make sense
It does make sense – we offer this as a free tier. We make money from users who seamlessly upgrade to premium. The free tier is only online while the server is actively being used. It shuts down after 10 minutes of inactivity.
The concept has been proven and profitable for over 5 years now.
Ah, makes a lot more sense then. However, I don't think this makes it sound like it shuts down:
Wait what?
Free ? How?
By "always available", we mean that you can start your server instantly at any time – no waiting. That said, our landing page is being completely reworked and will go live in the next few days.
I'm considering this:
☀️ Sommer S – 1 Core, 4 GB RAM, 25 GB SSD – €0.99/mo
Is it sufficient for bedrock? and with how many simulataneous players? I'm looking for something small my son can use his allowance on for he and a few friends/cousins
It’s basically a free tier, just like Oracle or others offer – limited, but a great starting point for a group of friends for example.
Yes, Bedrock is lightweight on resources – Sommer S is totally enough for 10–20 players in a normal survival setup.
are there any hidden expenses? ie does the game cost extra? I've not ever done a gameserver.
I think ’instantly available’ would be better wording given it’s instantly available on demand, but by definition not always available since it shuts down, maybe always available to turn on but not always available
You just need to own the game itself, nothing else. No extra costs or licenses required.
Yes, with the new landing page, the wording will be reworked as well to make everything clearer.
Is VAT applicable for everyone ?
I tried to register your service but it returned an error.

Since I host MC servers for friends on a VPS, here my opinion for each plan.
Great plan for small server for friends, maybe a few mods if you wanna run some fabric stuff.
Probably my sweet spot and recommend spec for medium to maybe a lot of mods. Should easily be able to handle a Paper Server with 20-60 players, if you of course limit stuff so people don't lag out the server.
Mods if a lot of mods 2-6 players, unless you start restricting/limiting stuff.
The 4 cores aren't a big deal, but only 2 extra gigs of ram only is just weird. The jump between S and M is 4 Gigs, M and L is only 2 Gigs with 2 extra cores you really don't need. Those extra cores are niche. Some mods or Paper servers might need it depending on how the mods/plugins work, like some generation might get offloaded to other cores, but really pre-gen the damn world. You really only care about the extra ram at this point if you want more players or doing some really big mod packs. Some packs can only handle like 5 players with 10GB of ram.
One extra core, at this point no one cares about 4 or 5 cores, it's the ram. 16GB can pretty much run almost anything, all mod packs, 100 player servers (good luck, you need to do alot of magic or just run older versions).
If you want to run a network or a 'big' MC server, you can order the Sommer S 9 times, and have 9 servers with "9 cores" and "36GB RAM". One server can run the proxy like Velocity and forward to your other smaller severs (Hypixel does this btw. That's how they handle the 1000+ players in skyblock.)
If you want to run unmodded or modded for friends M or L is fine (more towards L for friends).
If you want to run just one big server with alot of people L or really XL, but please for the love of god, make sure to limit stuff and disable features. One big cheat example is limiting mob spawning. MC checks every tick to spawn mobs. You can really boost the Server TPS by decreasing this.
Let us install Ubuntu and we have got a deal
If you’re looking for full OS control like Ubuntu, I’d recommend our dedicated servers

Just thought I’d say I got a Sommer S for my son and some friends to have a game world of their own and they’ve been loving it. It’s worked great and @QytraDE had been responsive with the 2 or 3 questions I had. If anyone is looking for a similar use case (private server for their kids and a few friends) it’s been great so far!
