Looking for slightly prem WP hosting (preferably UK) (~100USD annually)

xmokxmok Member

A client of mine has been with Netfirms for maybe 2 decades but increasingly the experience has been declining; they jack up the prices almost every year, the panel is slow, and the sites are slow.

The next renewal is $196.14 and includes:

  • Storage: Scalable (250GB)
  • Bandwidth: Scalable
  • Domains: Unlimited
  • SubDomains: Unlimited
  • FTP Logins: 50
  • MySQL Databases: 5
  • Drag and Drop Builder: No
  • Premium Support: No

I have services with HostBrr and NameCrane and am 100% satisfied but this client is UK-based so prefer those providers. I am not going with managed WP providers such as Kinsta and WPEngine since management is not needed - only performance.

Requirements:

  • Domains: 2-3 (2 WP sites, 1 custom portal)
  • SubDomains: at least 10 each
  • Storage: < 10GB since there is external storage
  • Preferably UK since head office is in UK with clients in Asia and UK
  • Panel: cPanel or DirectAdmin
  • Cost: under 100 USD

Shortlisted:
1. SpeedyPage (STARTER 41.49USD or PREMIUM 89.29USD)
2. Krystal (Ruby 110GBP)
3. NameCrane (any of their cPanel Shared)
4. HostBrr (cPanel 50 GB - would opt for SG)

If NameCrane and HostBrr are still the best, I'm OK but interested in trying SpeedyPage.

Best.

I saw your last line , site is slow too, the problem is not just hosting, they also need to fix the MySQL slow log queries. Why I'm so sure about it, we fixed such issues almost daily basis.

  • If you are not hell bent on UK, then I recommend MDDHosting . Personally used them 2-3 years ago. Near perfect hosting with top notch support. Aff link in the signature. They have some kind of HA setup for their storage and hence offer 100% SLA.

They are quite expensive - will it be worth the price?

    UK is highly preferred.

I don't disagree but optimizations can come along with the new host. Right now navigating their panel itself is a chore and support is not very knowledgeable.

This is a great option but they do not have knowledge to manage a VPS so Shared is ideal.

  • @xmok you can find the new host, once you finalize it, if you need any help to see the slowness of the site. You can buzz me anytime.

Yes and I love your services (both email+hosting) but it's always good to look for more options.

I've actually never used Netcup's Web Hosting but the Webhosting 2000 plan do be looking attractive. But no UK :/.

Have been their customer for quite long and was very satisfied.

I personally used @speedypage Speedy Page for about 1 - 1.5 years, and I did not have any issue with it; performance is as they say it is, and everything worked. I had shared hosting and VPSs.

Also, @rsk from Layer can provide VPSs in UK with very good performance.

P.S. - used services from both providers so I speak from my personal experience.

SpeedyPage is definitely top of my list right now.

Q1) is it possible to modify the "STARTER WordPress plan" so it can support 3 domains instead of 2? I have not used your services yet so I would like to see how the performance is then if needed, will recommend to upgrade to the next plan of "PREMIUM WordPress"

Q2) to confirm, all WP plans have BunnyCDN included?

@xmok If you're open to it being in Germany and are OK trying out a different control panel let me know and I'd be happy to help for it and give you a week trial. While most of my web hosting is US clients, have a lot of Wordpress, both unmanaged and semi-managed for individuals and some businesses. Web hosting plans can be found here but I'm flexible with storage if more is needed. DM me or email mike at extravm.com.

Dang, all my hosts are on LET when I just started frequenting LET this month. Do all hosts just post here at some point?

  • Here are my recommendations.

Krystal is solid. Been using them for over an year. Haven't seen any downtimes.

Speedypage had occassional issues with their UK node in the past but it has been stable for quite some time now. Their CDN seems to be unavailable at the moment, at least for my account. But overall very good.

Namecrane is also solid but also had occasional issues in the past. Some were beyond their control, but it's hard to explain that to clients.

  • xmokxmok Member

    Hello everyone.
Thank you so much for the suggestions .

Based on the offers, I had the following to choose from:
    1. Krystal (seems to be the best but they charge a lot)
    2. SpeedyPage (highly regarded and BunnyCDN included in WP Plans)
    3. ShockHosting (similar pricing to SpeedyPage, nice specs)
    4. NameCrane (already using, no complaints)
    5. HostBrrr (already using, no complaints)

I ended up recommending SpeedyPage STARTER plan (non-aff)

Thank you everyone for the suggestions and help.
