IONOS :: Cancel $2 VPS - 20 min call with 2 departments LMAO

has anyone tried IONOS? this is so enraging.. i will never deal with them again after today's experience of cancelling 1 of 5 VPS i rent from them, each for $2/month the smallest option. While I appreciate the VPS-es themselves with fast unlimited bandwidth, the cancellation process is so ridiculously complicated, it is simply enraging.. After several steps in the online menu to cancel the server, it wasn't enough, so I had to call them, talked to 2 different people, was on hold for 15 minutes out of 20 total, and yet they kept asking what kind of support I need to reverse the cancellation request... OMG.. 🤬🤬🤬 I was laughing the whole time on hold.. this is simply ludicrous, preposterous, farcical, laughable and nonsensical (thanks to google for i was out of words)..
thanks to literally every hosting company i've experienced anywhere in the world that allowed to cancel online, with at most a simple dropdown "why", and even that can be left unselected in many cases..
ps. turns out i could have emailed them, but it is not clear how many more steps it would have taken, with possible call to/from retention department anyway..

Did you try charge back?
IONOS US? EU is way smoother.
no i simply wanted to stop 1 of the 5 contracts at the end of monthly cycle, which is 29 days from now, funny... good thing, they confirmed, when i cancel the remaining 4, i can do it bulk with 1 phone call, which i am planning to do.. i will not survive 4 more phone calls with them.. i asked where to complain, the lady said "nowhere"... maybe BBB of Philly? I am in full Caren mode right now.. LMAO
I believe this is an EU regulation: you should be able to cancel a contract in the same way as you entered it. If you entered it by sending a postcard, you must be able to cancel it by sending a postcard again, etc. So, if you entered the contract online via a website, you must be able to cancel it via an online website too.
German providers are known for their ridiculous cancellation procedures in any case.
"Thanks for your feedback" moment but it is clear and honest acknowledgment of actually /dev/null'ing it
Why did you need to do further after you canceled?
Do you want the money back?
Tech giants usually do require 15-20 mins waiting on the line. But Godaddy just kept me waiting for around 6 mins.
i am in USA, so it was IONOS USA based in Philadelphia
after several steps and menus online, the contract page said "you gotta call and confim, otherwise contract will remain active"
I didn't need money back, it's a $2/mo VPS
PS. Germany is a breeze, I worked with Contabo, Hetzner and some others, never more than 1-2 questios, at most they wanna know if cancelling now or at the end of billing cycle..
@SergueiKireev - I am glad that our process was low-stress. We recently re-did our FAQ about cancellations here, in case anyone ever needs it. It usually takes just a few clicks to delete a cloud server or other resource on Hetzner Console. --Katie
how much did talk time cost
in my country is about few cents per minute
You can just do the live chat and cancell trough there I do it multiple times never had an issue there 1 euro deal is golden for quick WordPress deployment
the point is after calling customer service whatever whoever there marks that you want this contract cancelled, then you end up communicating to retention department, which in turn starts asking how they can help and what can they do to retain you and keep the contract going.. and every step of the way there's an option to cancel the cancellation, and now there's a BIG FAT LINK to come back..
and now, who wants a bet? i bet that pressing that link ONE TIME will be enough to un-cancel the contract. as opposed to 2 reps and 20 minutes on the phone to actually cancel it. but i am afraid to try.. really.
PS. this whole thing is not about money, not even about wasted time, it is about the ridiculous stage of simultaneous hoops and hurdles.. I really appreciate the $2/mo VPS there, and i think some email told me if i keep going, i will get from 6 to 18 months free or something.. and i do keep 4 other VPS there in other geos, i just stopped benefiting from the one i cancelled, in past 10 months i've gone thru roughly 150 VPS servers at maybe 20-25 different providers, some monthly, some yearly, and i now have only maybe 55-60 of them left, so i am quite experienced cancelling them. and value a short method - click and click and done.. IONOS is definitely not on my list to go back to, after this whole hybrid and off putting, plain wasteful fiasco.
Out of all the providers I’ve tried I can conclude that Ionos can do one. 0/10.
I have 2 ionos servers for 0.70$ per month. Running already 14 months. Perfect.
@Levi try cancelling 1 of them and you'll know: you've been paying too much all this time.. 😛
Nope. Each server is 0.70$ a month. Those are perfect small servers.
You can also go to Strato, but for the > @SergueiKireev said:
Just use them live chat never had an issue
What's stopping you from just quitting without doing anything else? Unpaid means it won't work. Don't connect your main bank card to autopay. Never give your passport to someone you don't know online. These simple steps will keep you out of troubles
In common parlance, it's called - Beautifully evading responsibility.
You can better start putting the prices back like they were 2 years ago haha, Hetzner is still solid but not leader anymore for low-end.
Taxes are to keep us in debt, and enslaved. Thanks to our leaders. Not a company fault.
thanks, capt. Hindsight
well, then, thanks for letting me know that you have 2 servers with them and that you've been having them for a long while. this is exactly what i was expecting to hear from people, when i started this thread about complexity of their cancellation process.
i will try that, but it's not making things easier, even maybe more complicated, cause then i'd need to type, wait for them to type, etc.. phone call was possibly the lesser evil. chat is good when you know what to expect, like contacting amazon customer service, - it's easier via chat, quicker, etc..
Yes if you cancel the contract you will get a deal 70% discount for 2 years, it's really sweat and 30% for 1 year
i really like to sweat, but only during workouts..
ps. seems that it pays to cancel with ionos..
yes you can buy a package wait 30 days then cancel then the next year you get it for -75%.
Rebranded 1&1, are you surprised? Worst company ever to deal with; magically auto renewing domains despite explicitly disabling auto renew then a shit show of collections for a couple of bucks. I've had to quote the consumer credit act (UK) to get out of a contract I didn't agree to before. They can feck right off.
i just hope more people would know this.. i did have a couple of domains there for a few years some time ago.. but never had issues cancelling them via reregistering in a different provider..
haha, so that when time comes to cancel, they could freaking play on your consciousness, like we gave you a dirt cheap contract, why would you cancel? no, thank you...
Now wait for a first class letter that confirms your cancellation, followed by standard class letters that invite to sign up with other plans.
