@Motion3549 The disk performance for the most part has been auto fixed. I'm gonna chalk the poor performance to overall bad IO congestion.
No replies yet.
I'm curious about what use case you have that needs, let's say, 200 MB/s on 4K IO.
Those I/O speed results are still more than enough for most use cases. I doubt any performance issues you're seeing is because of that.
Even your lowest performance result is still perfectly on par with an SSD.
None. I like seeing my numbers big.
That said, its a jellyfin box with arr stack that I give access it to friends and family.
I never use Jellyfin, though. Which vps has so far satisfied your needs?
All of them. Fastest one was HostBrr's 16G4C but was out of my budget. I needed more cores so I got rid of it.
This is mostly cuz of transcoding. Its fine if it maxes out CPU but must not stutter. This one does the job. But with better specs(and lower price), I can push it to 2 transcoded stream simultaneously :P
Lol they said
50% more processing power for 50% slower disk speeds.
List one recent offer that has
and has better disk speeds.
If you can do that, you may call performance "poor" - otherwise you have to admit that it is the best performance you ever saw for that price..
I have not found anyone offering the kind of disk spaces Netcup offers for the price. I have an old RS1000 (8.5 EUR) from the last Black Friday and the performance and stability has been great, especially the network.
I've had a mixed experience with them. Serious problems they have not addressed, simpler oneoffs they have addressed quite quickly that wasn't available as a selfservice (DNSSEC for TLDs that they did support but wasn't available in their control panel and stuff).
Their previous promotional RS 8000 20 AMD Epyc 9634 VCore / 64GB DDR5 RAM with 3TB NVMe drive for 57/m has been phenomenal to me with no issues. But the biggest downside is that they do not allow nested virtualization. So your options for dividing that potential up is limited.
That said, as long as you don't have need of their customer service and can manage yourself with their own control panel with snapshots and drive (re)partitioning, it has been great. Their CD Image mounting has been clunky however, especially for larger images that need to be uploaded/push through a signed AWS S3 link but their example command helps alleviate some of it.
I'd say as long as you're not looking for true dedicated and can deal with really just renting a VPS, no matter if it is the VPS or Root Server variant and have no need for their customer service, it works very well for the price.
Performance is a relative term.
A single core 1600 GB6 cpu even with 12 gb ram and 500 gb disk is not even a good "performance" in my eyes. It will struggle A LOT to transcode in x265 slow mode (my use case).
I would rather buy 4Core10GB 9950x at 6 euro and some 4-5 TB storage server and do the computation which will cost 11 euro in total.
Where are you getting 4 dedicated cores of a 9950x + 10GB RAM for 6 eur per month?
It is hard to find such a deal elsewhere, especially in their disk capacity is always very high
I don't think I mentioned "dedicated"
nutcup is not my cup
You're talking about video encoding, not allowed by any VPS (for long lengths of video) and you're comparing a Netcup offer which has mostly-dedicated cores. (Oversold somewhat but they don't care if you run them at full 100% of the time)
Obviously a VPS is cheaper than a VDS but if I try to do an x265 veryslow encode of a 2 hour movie on a VPS the provider is going to shut it off.
I have found this not to be the case with their normal promotion RS1000 lineup. CPU steal, as per Grafana and prometheus setup that i have, has never crossed 3% and that 3% was once in 4 month.
I haven't had any issue with my RS, but they certainly were noticeably overselling them in 2024: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/195175/netcup-pauses-all-g11-root-server-orders-and-reduces-performance-by-50/p1
They don't shut down.
Keep it under 70% and you'll be good.
9950x running with 60-70% stress will yield better result than netcup RS.
(I have both).
Exactly my point. This box and combination is not for your use case, which specifically focuses on CPU. 1600 single core might be not good enough for that, but it is definitely above average, compared to a lot of other offers around here.
And talking about disk / IOps. Buying a storage vps is for sure ab option. 4-5 TB at 5€ is rarely possible and the IOps will depend on network speed and latency and rarely be better unless you manage to get something in the same DC maybe.
So again far away from being the same.
I invite you however to put numbers to your setup. Name the offers and bench the storage, happy to see what can be achieved.
Phone got damaged, 2FA app lost. Netcup send me access code by post that took 3weeks and they extended the billing for this and charged 4 Euro for sending post. I still can't believe.
thats the problem with 2fa
Never got around buying netcup sever, it's always disk io that seems low, so much cpu and disk they offer, but with iffy disk IO
I didnt found a more stable and cheaper server yet prive/performance, so if you know please let me know
Update: I cancelled mine because performance was a bit flaky. Sometimes it would do good and sometimes bad.
It would've been fine if it was limited to IO but sometimes GB6 score was affected too.
I did a side by side comparison of RS 1000 and RS 1000 Ultra. Normal one performed better.
I believe I am on an oversold node.
That's somewhat funny
But yeah, having 2FA that can be restored with a simple support ticket and email somewhat defeats the purpose of 2FA. They went through the nuisance to do things right.
you have raised the right point, I have been exploring different VPS providers, so far NETCUP seems to be the best option surpassing everyone, DDR5 RAM, almost latest CPUs, NVME , man what else one can ask for in such a low low price.
I am going to buy its RS VPS heard their onboarding process is time consuming, but if for such specification i think it might be worth it.
Bro did you forget we just had the 14 year anniversary with some great deals.
Now you are scaring me lol. Also, new to this stuff, but can you share why you cancelled instead of transferring ownership to someone else?
Then it should be easy enough to show one bro
