I'm happy with my $10 - $25 / year 1 Core 1 GB VPS lol, wishing it could be way cheaper but I also want the providers to stay alive so I could still use my deal long-term.
Maybe use BuyVM & AWS Light sail as base line to compare deals?
Also, my encrypted DNS network is fully live and covers majority of countries thanks to these deals.
High end for me means gpu included. It’s kinda like how in 2003 high end meant cd/dvd included.
Definitely a unique post, and a new unique viewpoint @384_cz . LET is def a fun place to talk, check out deals, get in some banter, stay current on the hosting space, and get help on hosting, routing, coding challenges. At least that has been my experience.
Who's greedy here? the provider or the community? I'm confused.
I think I've been getting great deals, and I'm not some community VIP, either. I'd take a chance on a LET provider (esp due to the fact that I won't lose too much giving them a shot on a LET offer) than sign up with a larger provider, anyway. I've been burned a few times, but for the most part (more than 75/80% of the time), I've gotten something for a much much better deal than I would have looking elsewhere. Always keep backups, because I've been burned by larger orgs as well.
Taking a chance on a LET provider w/ a cheap deal, and then later realizing they offer gold, with their LET offers + in general, is good for consumerism and economics.
I don't know.. I feel "high-end" providers (larger, mainly) oversell more and are generally more expensive, but you do get better support for the price -- it really depends on how little support you need. If something is blatantly broken or I've spent a week on it (I know, too long, but I don't like not having answers to my own problems) then I'll spin up a ticket.
Either way, who cares if you're satisfied with the price/product?
also; Inflation is a real thing.
7$ buys heck of a lot less than 5 years ago
Someone better start highendtalk.com!
$7/year for a 9950 vps is just a bad business plan. Costs are too high.
Our cheapest AMD 9950x plan 7.95/mo! But you can get 30% off with our July 4th special on annual
Trying to please consumers with unrealistic and unsustainable deals is a trap many low end businesses fall into. The ones that are focused on quality and sustainability tend to operate more efficiently and last significantly longer.
definitely have to pay attention to the quality and the numbers.
You've been in business for more than two decades, you should be mentoring some of these businesses
When a AMD 9950x node costs about ~$3200 that = $250/mo for 12months ROI just to recover the hardware costs. Plus this doesn't include colo/power fees, ddos fees, or IPs/internet fees.
Because we have been in business since 1999 our 'fees' are more easily absorbed/shared among all our services. It's less painful for us with cage w/ 27 racks vs a small vps company who just has a few servers/nodes.
Anyone selling $7/year 9950x vps accounts must be overselling hard to recover that hardware costs of ~$3200, just my 2cents...
VPS is a hard business to start new in 2025 1000%
Thanks,
Ryan
People will always strive to save money. If an entrepreneur cannot sell his services at a price that suits him, he should not engage in business.
Inflation ^_^
sooo who's offering $7 deals for op?
>
Just Google it my
you'll find plenty.
You might want to add some specs/location to your request though.
By the way, if you're only looking to run low-end stuff, it's only gotten cheaper. Nowadays you can get an Indian VM for just $12/y to run your low-end distro. Compare that to 10 years ago.
low end price , high end spec = good
I appreciate LET providers, all of them. The offers are great and quality of servers is highly appreciated. The offers range from high-end dedicated servers (some people might actually need those) to very low-end bottom of the barrel $7/year virtual servers. I can't complain, since I am an example of a quite greedy customer who gets driven by emotion in buying more than I can possibly need. I do have fun, even though most of the time I can't get all I want since I can't afford to order everything.
My biggest problem is bots. Many people have bots to order and fill forms automatically, grabbing very rare and limited offers. All this is understandable because it grows LET in popularity and in advertisement efficiency, but it is also frustrating for human users who try to behave decently. In my opinion this is the biggest downside of LET, while things will only get worse in this regard as AI grows in popularity with automated scripts more easier to construct over time.
EDIT: At the end of the day LET should be seen as fun. Offers are great, but it is not worth it to stay here waiting for offers with scripts and bots ready, in order to snatch that rare $3/year deal. The most important aspect is fun, because wasted time does not compensate that $9 saved on the same offer which could be obtained for $12/year on a normal LET day. This is just my personal view - I respect though all the people who don't share the same view.
The reason is simple

Size of the Linux kernel almost always outpaces US year-over-year inflation
The name LowEndTalk means LOW Price but now we see enough high price very often. May be HighEndTalk name should be registered for such greed deals?
The domain highendtalk.com is available at Namecheap.
Just... shut up. It is Friday and I think I should write a blog post on LowEndBox about how a lot of people are spoiled by unsustainable deals.
Have you tried drawing a picture for a deal?
Nope. A lot of cheap deals are reliable.
Clearly propaganda to rise the price ceiling of LET.
Please don't mention me...
Yeah I see everything being 2x more expensive in the grocery store. Maybe I should strut up to the customer service desk and moan over there how this shit is so expensive and theyre too greedy. Im sure they're going to agree and give me some banger deals.
Maybe spin up your own unsustainable vps offerings.
The unsustainable things are fun to try to grab, but definitely shouldn't be expected as the norm, lol. Also @FAT32 is my favorite.
Sure did. Still waiting for my deal....
It’s true that hypervisors are getting more dense and power efficient. The real problem is both the IPv4 cost and the time it takes to handle customer support requests.
If we lived in a society where IPv6 had full adoption and where hiring support was cheap, $7/year could be doable but barely profitable in a cheap location.
IPv4 pricing has continually been going up over time, and dollars are generally getting less valuable due to inflation. It’d be more profitable to rent out IPv4 addresses than it would be to sell $7/year VPS at this point.
A lot of people come to LET for cheap resources. For example, deals like $8/month for 16GB RAM. This is still “low end” in the sense that it is still 1/8th the price of AWS, Linode, DigitalOcean, and most other providers.
LET is just not only about the cheapest price period. It’s about maximizing value for your money.
(emphasis mine)
I remember times, not even that long ago, when physical investments ("things one can touch") were financially recovered over 3 or 4 years, and I remember stories from my grandparents where almost every physical investment, business as well as private, was intended for life or at least recovered over a long period of time, 10 or even 20 years were not rare.
But in predatory capitalism, uhm, ... in our "modern smart economy", servers of bloody course must recover their costs within a single year. I wouldn't even be shocked if some "modern streamlined companies" would giggle about a provider who calculates "so conservatively" ...
I for one strongly prefer providers who calculate "boringly conservatively" and also tick long-term.
Mostly BS.
IMO it's simple: you want cheap? Then compromise, maybe aim for a Xeon E5v4 or if you are lucky a Scalable. You really need Ryzen (current) performance? Then pay for it, simple as that.
And btw, 90+% of LET users, let's be honest, do NOT need current Ryzen performance. That's more of a herd thing and/or "I want!" driven.
So, the realistic rule of thumb is: low end price, not high end but decent spec ~ best chance for a good deal + recurring and sustainable.
This is unfortunately true.
The failure of everyone to deploy IPv6 means the $7/year VPS deals are gone.
Hypervisors are more efficient but IPv4 costs force VPS hosts to focus on $3-5/mo packages instead of the $7-15/year packages.
We also need Ryzen 9000 VPS packages because otherwise how would a LET provider differentiate versus DigitalOcean or Vultr? They have the big marketing dollars, so many people would happily just use them over us.
we never really had $7/yr deals, its a meme. christ you can rent a dedi now for what vps used to cost, "good old days of $7 vps" is nonsense.
