From Wikipedia:
How could anyone use anything other than Debian these days? All the rest are just - meh
Had to help a guy setup bgp on Alma the other day. Couldn't even find bird2 real updated repo. Had to compile from source. Outrageous.
EL has bird v3.1.2, the latest version. The package is just called "bird". Unless you mean you specifically needed v2.x
Bird3 is full of bugs and should not be used in production. So yes - bird2 only.
I had upgraded all my servers to bird3 - bunch of random disconnects and weirdness - bird2 revert - fixed. And no - wasn't a configuration issue - with pathvector being used on them. I'm not to only one to experience this. Many people complaining of bird3 issues. Bug reports never stop.
