Buy DDOS protection or build my own proxy in OVH
in Help
I'm currently just running a game server, the problem that is usually faced when running a game server is a ddos attack,
I would like to ask if it is better to buy a ddos protection service or create my own proxy on the OVH vps which already provides ddos protection, because my budget is not too much. about 30$ per month.
my game server has a list of what packets will be used, maybe this can be used for filtering later.
can ddos protection in ovh be set in such a way as to block packets outside of the packet list that I have?
my game server only uses tcp entirely

OVH Kimsufi is enouth.
OVH's gaming protection is terrible, it is no longer compatible with current attack patterns
the ideal would be something like BuyVM tunnel or NeoProtect
We offer custom DDoS protection. Our solution can be tunneled to your OVH server via GRE, so you can keep using your current hosting while benefiting from our filtering.
Check out our remote protection offer here:
-> https://packets-decreaser.net/remote-protection (Starting at 29,95 € per month)
Let me know if you'd like help setting it up or have any questions!
Is your problem with volumetric attacks or non-volumetric attacks? If you DM me more info about the packets/actual issue, I might be able to help adapt a solution I setup for another user on this forum.
Hi there,
I'm considering using your Remote DDoS Protection service and I was wondering how exactly traffic usage is calculated.
Is the traffic measured based on ingress, egress, or both directions?
Is there any form of monthly quota or fair usage policy, or is it truly unlimited as stated?
Does GRE or WireGuard tunneling add any overhead to the traffic counted (e.g., encapsulation)?
Do you track PPS (packets per second) in any way that affects billing or service throttling?
Traffic is counted in both directions – everything the tunnel receives and sends is measured. This includes any protocol overhead.
Our default plans are not flatrate. Each tunnel starts with 5 TB of clean traffic included.
If you need more, you can rent additional traffic.
We do offer flat-rate options (e.g., 1 Gbps flat = 666 TB/month), but these are not listed on the website. You can request them via support ticket.
Yes
There are no hard PPS limits, but since the tunnels are software-based, there are practical limits for stable operation:
Let me know your traffic requirements, and I’ll provide you with a custom offer.
What game server is it? We may be able to help you, we built our own mitigation engine and can develop custom filters for you if needed.
You (OP) also might want to have a look at @jh_aurologic who AFAIK have a ton of experience and I happen to know that (in a former life as combahton) they have provided excellent protection and bandwidth to some (quality) providers.
