RAID 0 as backup for real? Or it's just a typo for RAID10?

It's not really part of the megathread deals, but if anyone had followed our previous comment about our new HTTPS engine and was curious why we switched from our old (soon to be open-sourced) engine...

    1. The old engine was written in Go, which was good on performance (~300k r/s on old hardware);

    2. The old engine had problems at scale with consistency. We would see dropped requests that shouldn't of dropped, and clients noticed the same when experiencing our in-house web hosting platform -- requests to the backend would become flaked out.

    3. We determined this was because of a handler issue when we wrote the original code and the way caddy parses and passes data.

At that point, we decided that we needed to go for something more performant and consistent, instead of writing another Go-based server, we went full in on Rust.

We implemented rustls for TLS + SNI, and wrote custom SNI handlers, we also wrote an ACME certificate issuer with /.well-know/... intercepts and synchronizing the value across nodes with our backend queue.

Then, we wrote a new request state lifecycle, implemented reusable connections and session context in the lifecycle... then came the fun part of implementing the underlying caching mechanism in a non-blocking way with hot refreshes and ttl for expiry of records (and files) in the cache.

We utilize the same caching routines under the hood, have an SQL backend for dynamic configurations, and implemented ZeroMQ (zmq) for peer-to-peer communication between other HTTPS engines including pushing cache data, forcing invalidation in real-time.

After all that, we built the Proof of Work mechanism, implemented Object Cache, and began working on the ACL Engine. The ACL engine isn't too fancy yet, but it lets us filter and refine rule profiles with...

    whitelist: ip, asn, country
    blacklist: ip, asn, country
    modify headers (ingress & egress)

Once we're finished the ACL engine fully we'll be building an Object Delivery system for lightweight static site, CDN delivery (objects)... then we'll battle test this some more, and open up our in construction edge CDN for everyone to try. If anyone wants to take a spin of the beta, feel free to DM me.

p.s., before you ask, yes we also are building a fully RFC compliant authoritative DNS server with geodns support, which we'll also be deploying. yes, it's also in rust.

Crazy deals!! Question though. Do you have any YABS benchmarks for the 16 GB 9900X model in Los Angeles? Ideally from a VPS node that’s full. I’d like to see disk performance and average Geekbench 6 scores when the host node is at capacity. (My previous 7950x server with DeluxHost became slow due to overselling.)

    Also, on your website:

LA is pending for up to one week, so does this mean the 48-hour window starts right after the service becomes active?

    Hello,

I believe I have a 16G service of my own on the full node to test for you. I am currently busy for the 4th of July but I can get you something later tonight.

The 48hr refund window starts once the service is deployed.

    Thank you

    Hello,

I believe I have a 16G service of my own on the full node to test for you. I am currently busy for the 4th of July but I can get you something later tonight.

The 48hr refund window starts once the service is deployed.

    Best,

Ah okay thank you. Because I made the invoice and I want to buy, but i’m concerned it might get cancelled if I wait till later tonight for the results. 😓

    Hello,

The invoice should remain active. We do not overallocate our nodes which is why it doesn't take long for them to become out of stock.

It is not expected that CPU score degrades much overtime.

    Best,
