    I grew up not far from Valley Forge and Independence Hall. I remember visiting both as a kid. There was a replica at Valley Forge of the little, tiny cabins that Washington's army lived in. Not high enough to stand up inside. Certainly not much more horizontal space than what I imagine it must have taken for the soldiers to lie down, maybe on their sides, since that would take less room. I think I remember the sign saying something like twenty soldiers per tiny cabin. I remember that a foot of snow wasn't uncommon during the winters, and three feet of snow wasn't uncommon. So I have in mind today this little bit of just one aspect of the costs of America's Independence. . . .
