Windows Server 2025 runs slower than 2022

RurikoRuriko Member

I have installed windows server 2025 on my Kimsufi KS-1 dedi. I'm experiencing poor performance when doing basic stuff like for example it takes a minute to search something in your apps; a minute to open browser; a minute to close apps. If I reinstall to windows server 2022 then the performance a lot better since doing basic stuff is doable since it would instantly open files, instant search, instant close etc...

Is this a bug in windows server 2025 or it's just kimsufi is too old to handle 2025 but can perform a lot better with 2022. Are there any optimizations I can do with 2025?

Yes basically all w25 w11 resources hungry.

Windows Server 2022 doesn't go end of life until 2032.

2027 - end of mainstream support
2032 - end of extended support

You'll still get security patches through 2032, so if you're happy with 2022, why not stay on it?

  • Solution: use Windows Server 2022 instead

Here my two cents. Any GUI applications (or OS GUIs) I wouldn't expect to get faster with major version updates. Even Linux distros.
However any pure CLI like a Linux server distro I wouldn't expect it to get any slower (or faster) unless it's patching security problems.

  • Using Win 2025 on a:
    250 GB NVMe SSD Storage
    20 GB RAM DDR4
10 vCPU (Dual Intel Xeon E5-2699

    It works like a charm.

Very snappy - not more than 20-25% memory usage.

I use it as a desktop replacement for my trading needs. I have the full suite of Office applications and some more.

Never been happier - it is better than 2022 because it has better desktop compatibility and none of the bloat and adware of win11.

    1. Check for CPU steal.
    2. Check for event viewer and see if its throwing any error.

Usually if your PC becomes very slow out of nowhere, something in the background is struggling. Event viewer might help determine the cause.

This is after what everyone has said above.

any older version of windows runs faster than newer/current version

    1. OrangeVPS - 16 USD/mo - They have inbuild ISO with all the drivers and it just works. Pwd reset integrated with their panel + good VNC implementation. Compared to HostHatch, I spent 90% less time getting my Windows machine up and running.
