I've had a few providers deadpool on me and my free oracle arm instances are still going strong, so I'm not sure this is the greatest argument against.

I mean sure, if you buy a $4/year 4c 4gb 150gb nvme 1 gbps unmetered vps from [Insert summerhost here] and it deadpools, then its probably not a great argument against. If you buy the deal from a reputable provider whos been in the industry for years, has sustainable offers, and a competent owner, chances are even if they deadpool (unlikely), there will be a buffer to allow users to back up all their files, and possibly even pro-rated refunds.

Look at the horror stories on reddit about oracle deleting peoples instances without any notice. Quoted directly from a post: the free tier is offered at their sole discretion, and they can and will cut you off at anytime

I also got a $6/year vps at Greencloud. I’d trust that over oracle to not get randomly deleted one day despite the cheap price.

Hence why you upgrade to the PAYG tier, then just stay within free tier limits? They don't randomly delete instances if you are on PAYG.

correct, they don’t. i had to authorize a $100 charge or something (they refunded it though) to get upgraded.

Still though, its free and if they ever change their mind in the future, you’d have to cancel it before you start getting charged. (if they even warn you beforehand)

If its free, then most likely, you are the product. Mostly The free is not as in free air but free beer so that the service provider protects itself and benefits by learning and experience from your hosting on their platform. Nothing against them, but these things are never expressed clearly.

  • Best I have is in my eyes a 16c / 32G / 1TB HDD / Unmetered 300Mbps for $20.15/y
Had it for 10 Years it was originally a Opteron Semi-Dedicated OVZ but they keep giving it CPU, Ram Upgrades as they decommission old hardware (Were up-to Xeon Platinum 8180M KVM). I only actually use 4 cores, 8-12GB Ram, 300GB HDD, Maybe 75Mbps sustained.
