What I genuinely don’t understand is why people often ignore their actual buying power and opt for something that is simply too good to be true. It can’t be stupidity or common human psychology it has to do something with brand trust (ie. LET)
If you want to start selling online, and you are on a tight budget. Use online stores, if you wish to make your own site and shill it on Craigslist and Facebook, a simple HTML site from a provider like NearlyFreeSpeech.net will work.
Make do with what you can actually afford… same if you want a small forum, any shared host will do… don’t believe these amazing offers when the hardware costs plenty, and if they don’t push enough bandwidth, something doesn’t seem right… you also need to be pushing enough bandwidth and you can’t cheap out on things that will make the first impression.
If you’re a niche provider, nobody is going to care… but if you want all sorts of customers. Then you have to do it like @crunchbits and do it properly. Make it a real business. Something sustainable.
Otherwise, honestly… allowing every Tom, Dick and Harry to sell is putting everyone at risk. Well, if we care about the community… X
