I mounted CraneMail to Alist and enabled Alist WebDAV function. Then I could synchronize the notes in Joplin app to CraneMail File Storage.

How do you find Alist? Have you been using it long? I was looking for something similar to what it does and it looks like a good companion to the Cranemail storage.

It has been popular for many years.

Do you think you can make some mailbox to have receive only and read only mode? Just an idea!

    Interesting idea.

  • Sorry for the newbie question as I didn't really read the list of features.

Is it possible to create disposable email addresses (like Addy.io or Simple login does) or is the most near feature is catch all email address?

    Thanks

You can create a single disposable inbox at a time via webmail. It wouldn't be overly hard to rig up the API to automate it. I've been thinking about doing that for a chrome extension.

You can ~sorta do this already with the existing access settings. So if you create a user and go to the settings area for it in SmarterMail as a domain admin (Domain Settings -> Accounts -> click on user), there's a 'Service Access' box.

If you disable 'Outbound SMTP' - that prevents them from sending. They might still be able to send internally (to local accounts) though, haven't tested that.

As long as "Inbound SMTP" is enabled they can receive, and then you can pick/choose if you want the account to have only webmail or imap/pop/mapi+ews/etc access.

  • I am having a problem with a new CraneMail account I created an hour ago. macOS Mail crashes right away after I add the IMAP account, and SparkDesktop lists the messages but then hangs when opening them. Is anyone else having issues with IMAP?

  • Problem solved, it was the antivirus.

Only heard today due to the emergency maintenance that I've got migrated on my hosting plan from LU to NL, lol. It's fine but did I miss some kind of mail that announced that?

Also, the v4 routing sure is interesing, not gonna lie.
From Austria, the peering to the LU location (I've used a BuyVM test ip, was on the same network, eh?) is ~17ms, directly via HE Munich -> Luxembourg, whereas peering to the NL location takes around ~29ms (bit much for NL) and goes through M247 Prague -> M247 Frankfurt -> Aorta (so Liberty Global) Frankfurt -> Eranium. Not that it really matters for shared hosting, but it do be interesting.

I'm fairly sure we sent an email about this earlier in the year but there's a good chance it's still sitting in 'draft'. Its been a very busy year.

Eranium has some more BW providers coming in soon that should add even better routing :)

    Does anyone know:

    1. Do you get full access to SpamExperts so you can configure scores, whether you want to Quarantine or not and setup Actions (for example delete Viruses but deliver Everything else - including spam)?

    2. Is support for accessing the Cloud Storage via SFTP still on the upcoming feature list?

    3. Are there any short or long term plans to add UK-London or Asia-Singapore as Locations for CraneMail or will it only ever be USA or EU only?

    4. If you purchase the $10 one year option to check out functionality can you later upgrade to a lifetime plan with a prorata $10 refund so you have not lost the $10 payment for the one year option?

    Thanks

This is something I've been exploring, before I go full steam ahead setting up anything permanently I've wanted to do it "right" this time rather than a dumping ground of services until the inbox becomes unusable and I need to move onto my next one.

If this is possible, to keep it all self contained and within the same service I'd be a really happy camper.
Dunno what the license is like, but addy.io is self hostable isnt it? Would that be something you'd be interested in exploring?

Honestly some middle ground between a catch all and full aliases with a nice interface and... I dunno you'd have me hooked aha.

  • I was getting crazy now while setting up a phone watch for my kid because I wasn't receiving the verification code to my email address, tried lots of times with no luck and I got nothing in the spam folder either. Switched to gmail address and got the code right away. Could this be because of SpamExperts or? But even if it was classified as spam, why didn't the email end up in the spam folder?

Emails get quarantined, they don't get auto released & tagged. You can change that with an inbound rule if you want.

SE only sends alerts 3 times a day (by default), it isn't going to alert you every time.

When I set up the domains I am 100% sure I enabled SpamExperts, and in fact I was given the 4 MX records to configure in the DNS for it. However now I was checking since I wasn't sure where to set up the inbound rule you mentioned (can you clarify?), and when I opened the domains both had SpamExperts disabled, so I had to enable it again. Could this be the reason why I wasn't receiving that important email? Also why was the setting reset when I opened the domains again?

  • FranciscoFrancisco Top Host, Host Rep, Veteran

@vitobotta said: Could this be the reason why I wasn't receiving that important email?

If SE wasn't enabled but the MX were set, then SE would be outright rejecting the emails. That would for sure be an issue :)

I would try the 2FA again to confirm.

I see, makes sense. I was surprised though because I am pretty sure I had enabled it. If, let's say, I had left it disabled, would the UI still show me the DNS records for SpamExperts' 4 MXs? Because I was definitely given those records to configure.

No the UI shouldn't have shown the mxfilter MX records if SE wasn't set for the domain.

I'll make sure I didn't break that basic catch in a little bit, but it's the most basic of logic checks.

So about the quarantine, will I just receive an email with links to approve/reject or how does it work? Sorry I am not familiar with SE.

Yup, by default it'll send 3 throughout the business hours, but you can change the frequency within SE.

Every inbox will get such an email and then they can click and self-serve release.

Does anyone have any tips on the best way to pay using Paypal?

My primary email address with Paypal is my domain email and a secondary Paypal address is set to my Gmail address.

When I sign up to CraneMail I will obviously be using my Gmail address and when logging into Paypal I will use my Gmail address so the Order Email will match the Paypal Email as it doesn't make sense to use a domain address as if there is ever a problem with the domain address having the contact address being the domain address I will have no access (e.g. support / recovery notifications).

Before signing up should I temporarily change my primary Paypal address to the Gmail address to avoid any issues?

    Thanks
