They should just head for an Asian country.
Countries in Europe and North America are likely to capitulate to demands from companies and overreaching "dictatorships" to hand over user data.

Gotta admire their dedication.
It is not dedication. For company like proton, public image and reputation is main product that they are selling. Not email, vpn or other crap. There is more then enough giants which all this does way better.
If they loose “we are privacy” and “we respect your data” label - their business is over. So that’s why they making this fuss about moving, not due to real concerns about user data privacy.
In the end, dollar is a king.

Iceland? Logistically not the easiest, but it's probably the safest country (For now).
Move to Singapore, Vietnam or Malaysia or Kenya
Probably a lot harder to do, but they're all known for ignoring American and European legal overreach.
Moving would not change much. If needed by big people, proton will surrender whatever will be requested under gag order, it just depends on the scale.
I largely agree. But maybe, I mean it can't be excluded, maybe they really are serious about privacy, etc.
But yes, in their situation they have to make some fuss.
There's also interesting political aspect there because in CH they do have referenda (direct democracy, the people themselves get to decide) and maybe Proton is trying to get that issue to a referendum, assuming that a majority of swiss people do not like the planned law either. OTOH in case a referendum confirms the law Proton would have to understand that CH isn't the right country for them anymore ... and leave.
