40% Price Hike from SimpleSonic – Are We Seeing a HostMantis Repeat?
Hey LET,
I just received an email from SimpleSonic announcing a ~40% price increase across all their shared and reseller hosting plans — both cPanel and DirectAdmin — effective July 1, 2025.
Here’s a quick summary:
🔧 New Pricing (Effective July 1):
cPanel Shared Hosting
Startup: $3.25 → $4.59
Standard: $5.45 → $7.69
Business: $8.75 → $12.29
DirectAdmin Reseller Hosting
Startup: $4.95 → $6.99
Standard: $19.95 → $27.99
Business: $34.95 → $48.99
They’ve cited rising costs in software licenses, support, and hardware as the reasons — with a promise to reinvest in infrastructure for better performance and growth.
But here’s my concern:
This reminds me a lot of what HostMantis did — starting cheap, then hiking prices 2-3 times over a short period. What started as a great value quickly became unsustainable, especially for those who bought in expecting long-term affordability.
I understand costs rise, and I don’t expect pricing to remain static forever. However, when a provider increases prices by 40% in one go, it raises red flags, especially when they’re still relatively new (SimpleSonic started in January 2023).
What do you think?
* Are these price increases justified?
* Is this a HostMantis-style trajectory?
* Anyone else affected by this or planning to move away?
Let’s discuss.
Thanks

They are the original HostMantis owner
I fucking hate HostMantis and I hope they fail and go into personal debt
Whoever owned HostMantis did a great job initially with everything. We had solid web hosting for years with no downtime or issues. Once the original owners of HostMantis (USA-based) sold off the company including data, to some French Canadian company (which I still don't know if it was legal to do so since your data crossed over to another country) then it all went to hell.
I’m well aware that the owner/founder of SimpleSonic is the same person behind HostMantis. HostMantis used to be an excellent hosting provider, until it was sold. I recall that they increased prices 2-3 times, despite initially offering 80% recurring discount coupons. Eventually, those recurring discounts were downgraded to just 25%.
At one point, I had over 30 different cPanel and reseller accounts with HostMantis (now zero), so I saw all these changes firsthand.
Now with SimpleSonic, I have around 10 shared hosting accounts (cPanel + DirectAdmin), and they’ve just announced a 40% price increase across the board.
It feels like the same strategy:
Attract customers with low prices and big recurring discounts, get them hooked, then raise prices heavily and revoke the original terms once you've built a large user base.
Frankly, this kind of bait-and-switch tactic is bad practice and leaves a sour taste, especially for long-time customers who trusted the brand.
its a free market
Old habits die hard
Why change a formula that made you rich?
@Webrob honestly, you should have understood this after the first time. I avoided them at all costs after their constant lying about cPanel being the only reason. You went and did it again.
Not trying to be mean here, but hopefully you’ve learned something.
The third time won’t be different.
I agree
