Hostbrr Storage Box [How safe is it]
Hello,
So safety is everything.
I need advice, How safe is it to upload the backups and data to hostbrr storage box?
Because I had feeling that what if their staff or owner secretly accessing our backup data?
It indeed is dead cheap.
I had idea is to upload zip password protected archive as backup there, Is it fine?

Comments
Encrypted before sending to the server always good practices
Zip password protected is fine?
Yes
If paranoid internet is not a safe place to be.
Illuminati + owner + Trump + Hunter Biden access our data in secret. How could we know, since its secret?
If you use AES encryption yes, not the ZipCrypto or whatever else.
@labze is very reputable and will not pry on your data, so you’re in good hands. I have multiple services with him with no complaints, though he seems busy at the moment dealing with shared hosting clients.
But feel free to encrypt if it gives you peace of mind. Just make sure you regularly keep a backup, and keep the decryption key/password safe.
GPG encrypt your files first?
It's not suitable for storing your secret data though.
Restic or Borg Backup are encrypted so No Problem.
Otherweise use Something like cryptomator and rclone
I have better things to do than looking into what is stored on random accounts :-)
With that said, it is always a good idea to encrypt any personal / sensitive information.
I’m one of @labze customers, and in my case, I’ve set up rclone with encryption and mounted it on my Mac. So far, it’s been the best solution for me. I can access everything as long as I have an internet connection, and I usually get full speed.
That said, when I need to transfer a large number of files, I still prefer using the rclone copy command. It ensures file integrity and helps avoid issues if the internet connection drops.
So, my suggestion is to explore using rclone, it might work well for you too. Hope that helps!
has anyone recommended @CharityHost_org yet
rclone is working great with this storage. worth to try.
Use AS-Filecrypt by Andreas-Software , Sweden Developer, it’s a free app.
encrypt your password protected zip archive with Filecrypt, and that’s it, but keep same version on the app to unencrypt it.
Download this app: https://www.andreas-software.com/international/program_as_file_crypt.php
I guess that will be really private in most of cases.
rsync can encrypt before upload
rclone can encrypt before upload
cryptomator can encrypt before upload
restic can encrypt before upload
zips are not easily accessible (at least no fast access)
I trust @labze with my life
what is your command parameters?
Usually setting up an encrypted remote would do the trick. Then its a seamless copy/ clone command
https://rclone.org/crypt/
i do this all the time ... i just thought an upgraded rsync that has a new feature.
rclone YEah ...... it is THE thing now
copy all ... xerox
Nah. I wish it was that simple/ easy...
One day...
