Hi,
we made the secondary disk ( storage disk ) actually faster as we expect the workload to happen there...
If you ordered, you should have either received it or we might have had to open a ticket because you might have forgot to give us your LET username or you might have tried to order multiple servers in multiple locations. So we might be waiting for your feedback.
Or i am just blind and/or messed something up and you should kick asses via ticket and ask for it :-)
i never ordered because i didn't even know this existed until 6 minutes ago
is it too late to put in a ticket and pretend im still waiting
Hi,
well at least its your fault and not mine. A pleasant surprise :-)
The event is still ongoing. You can still get in france or germany a 5 or 10 TB server if you want.
what event what the fuck have i missed
please sir send assistance and maybe an order link with a 69% discount code
See this comment from @layer7 with order links:
Or for 10 TB: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/4435783#Comment_4435783
And I posted a YABS for the Frankfurt location in the YABS thread. And btw, you get 10% off when paying yearly.
m y im love @lukast__ && @layer7 but id ont think i can afford 5 euro per month
Hi,
if ever we make an event for free give-away's then you can use this post here from me for you as a voucher to receive those free give-away's :-)
Have a nice weekend!
Just looked in my list of servers (also my dedi) and this is the most expensive server I have
Still a great deal IMHO.
The deal looks great especially from a highly reputable provider and with ample RAM. Only thing that gives me little reservation is the primary disk speed. Anyone have any idea if it would be sane to run something like Immich or SeaFile or would the I/O speeds choke it?
Hi,
in general the secondary disk is faster than the primary one. And thats 500 IOPS and 80 MB/s. That should be normally quiet enough to run a 1-5 user private file-cloud if you dont have massiv what ever addons there.
But honestly i am not too much familar with it. I have just running next-cloud on similar things and it works fine. But i really just use it as a file storage without any considerable addons...
Last question is, can we take monthly to test our use case on it and upgrade to annual billing (with the 10% discount) once we know we’re happy with it?
And obviously if we’re not happy with it we’ll let it expire. Not going to ask for a refund or anything crazy like that.
Thanks!
Will setup this for Immich (still reluctant but I think layer7 had proper FDE by default) or even that very difficult to setup >> Ente Photos (native encryption).
Come on you know if you order this it will be delivered before my HostSlick box.
Hi,
sure, no problem we can change the billing any time.
In general, as long as the event is going, you can also upgrade from the 5 TB to the 10 TB space ( without reinstalling/reupload your data or change of IP or what ever ).
If you want to make this a success, be smart and take advantage of what you see from the yabs. Dont just use a normal default ext4/xfs/what ever filesystem for the secondary disk.
Make it a zfs or also an ext4/xfs/what ever is fine, but make sure to format it with 128kb blocksize or maybe even bigger. It will provide a far better IO performance to you.
Obviously this only goes as long as you dont want to store 1 billion 50 kb small gif's or what ever. But normal pictures and videos anyway have nowadays sizes of multiple MB and the space is quiet cheap. You could effort sacrificing here and there some space for higher speed.
Simply try it out with a default format and an optimized blocksize and see yourself how it works for you. Feel free to share your experiences!
Same advice/suggestion goes for you here...
... but what is FDE? ^^;
I have always used the default 4k ext4 setup. Let's see if anyone follows this advice and share the results
YOU CANT KEEP DOING THIS TO ME!!!! OLIVER!!!!!!!
Hi,
yes, the 4k are history based and made sense as a good middle way between logical overhead, reality use-cases and technical state-of-art hardware situation.
And its still state of the art for downward compatibility with older software.
But nowadays the situation is different. Thats why all major vendors started to introduce 4k native blocksize disks instead of the 512bytes ones.
Content is nowadays simply bigger than before. And if you can get the job done with less IO cycles then its going faster ( as you can see with yabs ). In general the bandwidth speed goes up, while IOPS speed goes down.
So the question is what files are you actually going to store. And based on the answer you are choosing the blocksize and filesystem.
Which means if you are going to use a 128kb blocksize filesystem to store tons of 10kb documents then you just f*** up your filesystem's life :-)
So the bigger blocksize is not always better. Classical double edges sword....
I am very sorry, i know you have a hard time with me ;-;
And thats why i will try to come up with a good idea for the next event, to make sure you wont feel bored
NOOOOO!!!! I DONT NEED ANY MORE STORAGE!!!!
Very nice backup space, I'll order it. Surely that's the last one I need!
@layer7 bro u are a live saver that was exactly what i was searching for god bless u
order number:3482208734 u're amazing and very generous man
I bought a France one and it feels good. Can I still buy a Germany one? @layer7
Hi,
i am happy if you will make it another day
the best you can do is to get the 10 TB version... for now we limit the accounts to one storage server per LET account that is qualified to get it
The goal is to make as many people benefit from this limited suicide mission of us.
But honestly... if you really need soo much space... our regular offer is also anyway with 1 EUR / TB ( taking at least 50 TB ).... so if you really need a lot more, you can contact me for an individual offer.
4k for life.
fde = full disk encryption.
@layer7 Is there any difference between the France and Germany locations?
yes different countries

Yes they are close, it's hard to see on the map.
4k for life!
France has better cheese
Hey
Could you offer a discount for Cloud Server?
I don't need Storage Server now
