The Long Road to My Current "Perfect" Setup

It's kind of funny to look back at how my computer/desk setup has evolved over the years. I started, like many I guess, with a clunky family PC in the corner of a room, then maybe a basic laptop for college on a tiny desk. Now, after years of little tweaks, upgrades, and trying different things, I feel like I've finally landed on a setup that really works for me – dual monitors (a game changer!), a decent mechanical keyboard, and a mouse that actually fits my hand. It didn't happen overnight; it was a slow process of figuring out what I really needed versus what just looked cool.

For instance, I remember saving up for a super fancy gaming chair years ago, only to find it less comfortable for long work sessions than a simpler ergonomic one. It's these little trial-and-error experiences that shape our preferences. What's one part of your current tech setup (desk, chair, peripherals, software even) that took you a while to get "just right," and what was the journey like? Any "aha!" moments when you found the perfect component or configuration?

as a guy that doesnt need a dGPU the perfect setup would be something like a zenbook duo 2025, but with an AMD cpu/igpu, maybe next year they'll release one

Used to use big a desktop computer, now just HP ProDesk 600 G2 mini with ultrawide monitor. Also have a laptop but it isn't used much.

Yes, games chairs is a big scam.

Gaming anything is a big scam. Oooooh fancy RGB lights or plastic covering, price goes up 50% even though the underlying hardware is the same.

Aside from a 180 Hz monitor, people wouldn't even know that my desk has a gaming PC. It's all decked out with boring, cheap, office-like equipment that has worked fine since pre-COVID.

Kinda true but it is a similar thing almost everywhere - wine, watches, cars, jewellery. So, I prefer to take it easy...but gaming chairs is a big scam

I do enjoy my vertical mouse. But I'm yet to convert to split keyboard, mainly because I use different system throughout the day and I'm afraid the back and forth swithcing wouldn't be good.

You must be deprived of access to humour.

    This should be in off-topic.

I don't get those RGB kids lmao

  • these days main pc is ITX sized and the next iteration will be even smaller.

this leaves space for work laptop sharing the dual 16:10 monitors.

Quite a common scenario when you decide to visit a server-related community and see a naked man dancing with a towel only and a Chinese guy doing push-ups at his side.
