I got my server within 1 day but there seems to be a bug in their SSH key option. I ordered without an SSH key. After I got my server, I added my key to their panel and then reinstalled Ubuntu 24.04 with the key selected but I cannot login with that key + password auth is disabled (because key was selected). Anyone else facing this?

I selected an SSH key and Ubuntu 24.04 when ordered and it worked fine (but I didn't do a reinstall). Did you double check you using the correct SSH private key to log in? You should still be able to log into the console in the HH control panel with the password. Password should only be disabled for SSH. In the console you can check the authorized_keys file to see if your SSH public key is there.

Yes, authorized_keys was empty. I added my key using vim in the console and now I can login. (Had to write an AppleScript to type out the key because pasting doesn't work in the console.)

Yes, I had something like that happen too, after reinstalling with Debian 12.

Yes, I had something like that happen too, after reinstalling with Debian 12.

Also there's a Snapshot feature in the server panel. What's the pricing for that?

You don't need to contact support. Every account has 3 free snapshots available, but it's 3 across all your VPSes (not 3 per VPS).

I only contacted their support to ask about pricing and they said it's free for 3 snapshots. I'm not sure if you can make more snapshots at an additional cost. @hosthatch would have to answer that.

We do not charge anything for snapshots yet, as they are still considered a 'beta' feature. We completed our final rewrite of snapshots recently, and will be charging for them once we bring them out of beta, and will also have an option for 'backups' (which are scheduled/automatic snapshots)

It will likely be standard (competitive) industry pricing. I am not sure how that looks like yet.

Would any snapshots be included in base price?

If a full version is released, can the price be based on the number of snapshots?
Some people may only need one basic snapshot, while others may need more than 2-3, 3-4, 5+?

  • tumbletumble Member

Just one comparison: Binary Lane gives you one free "temporary" snapshot. I don't think they guarantee to keep it. It's useful as a quick safety net when you upgrade software.
