Seeking a Free AI Model API with OpenAI Interface and Million-Token Support
Hey everyone,
I'm on the hunt for a reliable, free AI model API that uses an OpenAI-compatible interface and supports a context window of at least 1 million tokens. I’m working on a project that requires processing large datasets and long-context tasks, so high token limits are a must. Ideally, the API should be accessible without heavy restrictions and offer decent performance for tasks like text generation, summarization, or even multimodal capabilities.
I’ve come across some platforms like OpenAI’s free tier, but their token limits and model access seem pretty restricted unless you’re on a paid plan. I also saw some posts about providers like AIMLAPI.com or DeepSeek offering cost-effective solutions, but I’m specifically looking for free options with an OpenAI-style interface for easy integration. Bonus points if the platform supports fine-tuning or has a generous free quota!
Has anyone here used or stumbled upon an API that fits these criteria? Any recommendations, experiences, or hidden gems would be greatly appreciated. Please share the website, any signup details, and your thoughts on performance if you’ve tried it.
Thanks in advance for the help!

You do realize running AI models costs money?
Check Google ai studio
Gemini 2.5 Pro Experimental on OpenRouter: https://openrouter.ai/google/gemini-2.5-pro-exp-03-25
although right now is rate limited.
Gemini api are free now, the flash ones have request per day limit of 1500 per day, and context size is also 1M
Also, the rate limits are per model, so if 1 model is exhausted, you can switch to other model.
You can check more details here -

This is by far the best free option I've found so far, as suggested by @eva2000 in another thread:
