Hence ppl use simplelogin or addy.io for that. 1 unique alias per 1 service. If want to stop sub, disable the single alias to prevent spam and just continue with your day. If later want to use the account again, reactivate the alias. My inbox has seen 0 spam since using alias for everything.

    Advertising emails full of goodies...
For people who currently have VPS/Storage/GPU servers with them I guess?
New or returning customers don't get in on the goodies I guess.

hmm I don't have any marketing emails from them, just announcements sent from what looks like whmcs based on template. is this certainly marketing email? if so there should be an unsubscribe option, that would be a valid issue/gripe to have. email screenshot or pastebin?

You will be ridiculed here as crunchy is loved. Just do the standard - report spam and block. I have pre-blocked crunchy ASN.

it's the email notifying about the company being acquired. I don't know if I'd call it marketing mail, but I'm also not an expert

    No, it's an announcement.
My guess is that you sometime in the past has created an account in their portal and therefor is listed as a user. Announcements like that are usually sent to all users.

If you want an example of spam, see Cogent. Unsolicited, marketing, collecting contacts from public whois and ARIN/RIPE/Etc databases, etc.

If Crunchbits didn't email customers about an acquisition, whether those customers be active or inactive, then people would complain. I believe every company that is acquired has a duty to inform their customers, old and new.

It's an email. Took you longer to create a thread about it then it would have to delete it.

https://get.crunchbits.com/clientarea.php?action=emails can be used to see what emails they've sent you over time. Feel free to share a screenshot of what they're sending you that you consider spam.

Actually, no, there is a huge difference.

Spam is unsolicited mail sent to people that have never allowed or requested it.
An announcement is sent to customers who have registered for your service and is somehow affected by the change in the announcement message.

It's not spam, I'm pretty sure they are legally required by law to send that email to you to inform you of an ownership change because of data privacy law (they have your private data, a new owner will now have your private data).

If you still want to complain you can try convincing the US congress to change the law

By this reasoning spam is justified....

    Chatgpt response:

    United States (CAN-SPAM Act)
The unsubscribe mechanism must be clear and conspicuous in the body of the email.
It can be a link, email reply address, or other Internet-based way to opt out.

It must not require the recipient to log in or visit more than one page to complete the opt-out.

Common practice: a simple “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the email.

European Union (GDPR + ePrivacy Directive)
The right to withdraw consent (opt out) must be as easy as giving it.

The unsubscribe option must be in the email itself, usually as a link or clear instructions.

Consent must be freely given, meaning users should not have to jump through hoops to opt out.

Penalties can be up to $51,744 per violation.

I would sue them if I were you.

Don't send the email: "I wasn't informed that my data changed hands."

Send the email: "I'm no longer a customer so this is spam."

If someone figures out a way to handle every situation in a way that doesn't upset someone, while having more than 100 customers, I believe I may be willing to invest in that knowledge.
