Storage Server that can handle Pixelfed and Peertube at once

edited May 2025 in Requests

Good Day Gentleman's, i would kindly request for a server with at least 1TB drive, 2+ is better,
that can handle Yunohost With Pixelfed and Peertube on it, in the moment my family have a server on prepaid host, 200gb drive 16gb ram, 4vcpu, it run well on Debian 12 using Yunohost and Public Pixelfed instance.

Actually i would like to upload videos from my iphone to Pixelfed also, so i had talk with my family and we decided that 200gb is not enough for us, also if some people would like to join Pixelfed instance later, with videos that storage space will gone too fast.

I would like to request a server with a least 1TB Storage(more is better), 8GB ram+ and 2-4vcpu or more in Europe or asia,

pay by Visa/Mastercard only
25 port prefer to be open(just for Pixelfed and Peertube Instance, so people may register with email verification)

if anyone may offer a such server for my small family, huge respect in advance.

Yearly Payment is better.

    interesting offer,
do you think 6GB Ram is enough for Yunohost + Pixelfed + Peertube ?

i might sound as boring guy, but do you have any terms of use or privacy policy ?
tried to find anything on the website, but i have not find it.

Danish registered company, German based servers.

Pretty standard terms of service. Don't do anything illegal publicly. The website is under reconstruction but TOS should still be available.

I'm not that familiar with the stack but my best guess is 6 GB should be sufficient.

Have a 7 day refund policy so you can always try and get a refund if it is not optimal for you.

    Thanks!
We like to focus on a simple but solid service.

is it UK Based Company ?

Yes, we are a UK based company.

it looks great, a bit expensive..

    Could go down to

    $10 / Month
    $120 / Year

But that's really the limit, and only because I like to support fedi projects.
Everything below that is just not sustainable :/

@RespectableCitizen HostBrr also has cheap storageboxes which you could mount to the VPS later (any vps, not just hostbrr ones) so this problem would be solved

I have a similar config to the one he posted in the same location and it's been running smooth, very stable. Definitely recommended.

I did run yunohost before and pretty sure it uses less than 200-500mb of ram so you should be fine.

is it possible for manual reinstall of Debian 12 minimal from VNC to mount HDD Drive to /home directory since NVMe is /Root,

in fact it would be my first time of using 2 drives on the VPS,

i just found that if i install Yunohost and then Pixelfed, i need to copy Pixelfed folder to Second Drive, and Create a symbolic link, So that programs looking for files will actually take them from the second hard drive

@RespectableCitizen you should just take this right now, especially with its 7 day refund policy. It's a unicorn to find a storage server with a powerful CPU (many storage servers on LET have ~1000 GB6 CPU score) for this cheap (~$100/yr), and this one has extra RAM on top. The Turin CPU has ~2500 GB6 score on a single thread.

    that is sound interesting !
a bit complicated for me as for the person who never tried that before,
    looks like it's possible,
maybe it's little more difficult way than have a second drive mounted to /home directory on the vps directly,

but 8 usd for 500gb storage box is super cheap.
    Thank you.
I still have no knowledge about it yet.

If you mount the HostBrr storagebox over SSHFS it will appear as a locally mounted drive, although you have to be mindful of bandwidth limitations between the storagebox and your VPS. Still, it's useful for cold storage.

I have only ever successfully mounted the storagebox over SSHFS but haven't used it for any actual applications (I mainly use it for nextcloud).

Peertube can run CPU load really high when transcoding. What is the AUP of an instance like this in regards to CPU ? How much can we burst before triggering an alarm?

Thank you, There is a script to reinstall Debian minimal https://github.com/bohanyang/debi , so actually there is no need to mount any iso, only VNC access is required , there are options for manual partitioning before the reinstall, other it make everything automatically.

It is a bit late 0:31AM here, myself i am traveling in Asia, talking to my mom on Jisti meet about the server right now, cause she will pay for it from her bank card, so i should choose carefully and not make wrong choice, i have to apologize about my slowly thinking,

since it is night almost and probably it is better to take some rest, i shall make choice in the morning tomorrow if you would let me to take some little time before making final decision.

    Thank you.

That is the thing that stops me, The VPS have to connect to storage box and read all the data from it, also send there Data when it's needed, sounds like it take a lot of "traffic there and back" ,

i would stay with second drive directly on VPS, of course i am talking simple since i have no any experience with storage boxes and mounting the hard drive's, even i have more than 6 VPS servers in the moment from different providers,

but they all got just one drive...kinda new thing for me.

We all have to study new things right ? also i really wish to have a public instance of Pixelfed that any of good people would use it for their photos and videos for free

  • wadhahwadhah Member, Host Rep

Don't worry about it too much mate, you can tackle that problem when you run out of space, 1tb is very big and wont be filled instantly.

It's also a lot simpler than you imagine :D it's basically a folder on your system that isnt physically located in the same system.

And if you get stuck just open a thread here and people will 100% help you!

    Good luck! <3

How much did you pay for that @RespectableCitizen ? Just curious on the price. The server specs look great. Was it $120/yr?
