OVH Minecraft Gravelines VS Roubaix

Hello there, I'm wondering about ovh and location, They are selling rise S-1 for quite cheap and I can choose between roubaix and gravelines for location so i'm wondering what's the best option for me, I saw something about gravelines being best for west eu and us routes and roubaix being eu east and north

This used to be the case before discovery locations.

GRA was west europe and USA
RBX was nordics and east Europe.
SBG was middle east, Africa, and Asia

Nowdays for usa, just get BHS or USA locations.
For east europe get warsaw and for nordics get LIM
and for asia get asia location.

In short, there is not much difference between GRA and RBX

GRA is larger and has slightly more capacity while RBX has generally more high end servers.

Personally I prefer GRA since its one of the largest datacenters in EU in terms of servers and capacity.

There is honestly not much difference between GRA/RBX. But I usually go for GRA because it’s frequently restocked and LIM both excellent connectivity and uptime.

Also check out OVH Smokeping, easy way to check latency to locations around the world.

  • @stefeman so choosing gravelines or rbx doesn't matter?

    Both will perform perfectly

  • @wuck its not about performance but what’s the best location for let’s say general eu and us players

  • @concept so choosing gravelines will be more beneficial for me?

That is what I go with usually. Like I said I recommend using OVH smokeping site https://smokeping.ovh.net/smokeping

It is very helpful in knowing what the latency will be like from GRA or RBX to large variety of ISPs and locations. If you know what ISPs your players are using then, you can look it up there and get a good idea of latency.

If you have equal mixed US/EU just go with BHS location.
Only EU on that plan :)

I run Java and Bedrock Minecraft servers for my son from GRA and it's great from NL. Connectivity has been awesome and it's really stable. My RBX server is only like 0.5ms faster pingwise than GRA, but on 10-12ms average pings there is hardly any difference noticeable. Google looking glass for OVH and you'll be able to check the pings/traceroutes out for yourself too before purchasing to ensure you pick the right one. ;)

  • If most of your traffic is from Western Europe or the US, Gravelines is usually the better pick. Roubaix works well if you're targeting Eastern or Northern Europe. Both are solid options though!

It’s seems to us that Roubaix has better networking as for Gravelines DC is routed via Roubaix.
