Is anyone here using the E-Mail from the Webhosting packages from Netcup?

bejebeje Member

I am curious if anyone uses the E-Mail offered in the Webhosting packages from Netcup and what is the experience with it. I got one package recently and plan to move 2 domains that where E-Mail is not at all important so I will also start gathering experience with it...

But I want to move one domain where mail is important. Is important to receive mails.

... so anyone with similar experiences?

Thanks!

Receiving mails isn't an issue with almost all providers, the hassle begins with sending mails that actually lands in user's mailbox.

I've been using it for a few months, and it's working fine for both receiving and sending emails. You can check the spam rate and compare it with other providers here:

Tagging @Gulf, he is an expert on email providers, in case he has anything to add.

Is it only for 1 domain ? Or can be added addon domains like in cpanel/da ?

It depends on the hosting plan (number of included + external domains allowed per plan).

I've been using a netcup webhosting package for my busiest email address since March 2022, and it works fine, both for sending and receiving mail. netcup have a set of IPs that they use for outgoing mail and which work well for deliverability, in my experience

Not sure if it works on all their webhosting plans or not, but on the special mail hosting package they sold lately, it's possible to add several domains with a one time 5 EUR fee, even though the descriptions says "0 external domains".

Interesting, thanks for your feedback !

Do you know if sending IPs change from time to time, even though you use the same smtp server, and if they switch to another IP if that's needed, similarly to @jar's mxroute ?

As far as I can tell, for sending, the strategy is the same as MXroute's or as MailBaby's in this respect

Since March 2022, I haven't experienced any deliverability issues that I'm aware of, but I also don't send to many outlook addresses, so I may not be a typical user. :) That said, when I send to outlook or yahoo or verizon addresses (which isn't often!), I haven't noticed any issues

Overall, I've been very pleased with netcup's webhosting package (so much so that I purchased a second one a year ago)

Thank you all for sharing. Forgot to mention that I am from Europe and I am sending mainly mails in Europe, where Netcup should have an interest to have "everything clean". You are also right that the difficult part is to get the email delivered
I guess I will start small and see where is going!

    p.s. btw nice community here!

Yes, surprisingly good delivery. They require documents to register, right? Then this explains the reason.

However, the whole DC is not that clean.

    From internal tests for netcup:

    • 12k IPs send mail in netcup.

    • 131 spammers — documents don't help, but from 12k IPs, 131 spammers is very good.

    • -8 overall reputation for netcup, a bit low (for comparison: SendGrid +35 rep, Mailgun +30, MXroute +36).

    • +11 max rep on an IP at netcup (SendGrid +35, Mailgun +30, MXroute +35).
So these 12k do not send very good mail.

All I can say. The spam I receive comes from hetzner and not netcup

I am not sure what the point is of comparing IPs on a network level of a (VPS) hoster with the network of a mail service provider (the difference is that as a mail receiver, I'll look at the individual IP reputation, and don't have to lose sleep over a few spammers in that network). But SendGrid having a good reputation seems very questionable to me - the amount of spam they send is just not funny anymore.

can't comment on their sogo offering, but i'm hosting dovecot postfix rspamd stack + z-push on their ip. never had deliverability issue since day 1, incl gmail, outlook, etc. follow the docs https://nixos-mailserver.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ - and it just works. setup tlsa and prometheus monitoring just to be safe.

  • Without issues for now, will continue to use it for one more year until switching

How to compare it then? If not with dedicated email providers? :D
You may be surprised, there are VPS networks that perform better than mail providers.

the difference is that as a mail receiver, I'll look at the individual IP reputation, and don't have to lose sleep over a few spammers in that network

This topic tagged me for benchmarks, so I am only concerned about sending mail :D

Senders may get unexpected shadow bans across different mail providers, due to neighbours or the network itself. Hetzner vps is a good example - you may get a clean IP on a fresh subnet and then receive a shadow ban as the neighbourhood grows.

But SendGrid having a good reputation seems very questionable to me

    Overall, SendGrid is good.
Detected about 35k IPs used for sending mail, and they have about 200 spammers.
Considering they allow commercial mail, this is really good.

    Twilio is crazy about compliance.
    Plus you get double dkim.

The IPs Netcup uses for sending mail are also very good.
However, the entire network has a bit low rep.

Netcup’s email with their web hosting is decent for basic use. It’s reliable for normal emails, but if email is very important for your domain, you might want to monitor it first for a few weeks. Some users also prefer using separate email services for better uptime and support.

It’s better to use providers that offer special email services with MailBaby or MailChannels for better reliability and delivery.

  • I was also looking for email solution for my domain to have professional communication. I have root server at Netcup and I was planning to host mailserver on my Root server along with website and other app. But upon search i find people not recommending to host it on root server for deliverability issue and security issues.
Should i host it on same root server or not please guide me if anybody already doing it? Or should i go for netcup Webhosting plan and host it there.
