And a new slightly bigger (more records) DB benchmark both on UK, LON and DE, FRA.

Context: 1.035.295 records on each server under test, each with one Bo50 (50 records per commit) and one Bo6 run. Timing (usec precision) starting on DB creation and stopping after the last commit, just like some weeks ago. All records contained purely random data. Both servers are 1 vCore, 2 GB memory, same OS and version.

    UK, LON
    Bo50: 643 sec. 769 ms
Bo6: 4.535 sec. 813ms (that is over an hour!)

You think that's very poor? Just wait and see the next results ...

    DE, FRA
    Bo50: 1.801 sec. 394 ms
    Bo6: - interrupted after over 2 hours -

For comparison, these are the results on my "stone age" VM:
    Bo50: 353 sec. 996 ms
    Bo6: 1897sec. 215 ms

Note that my "stone age" VPS was slower than the MG UK, LON server in my last test.

Now, the UK VPS was by no means fast in the test some weeks ago but compared to the DE VPS it looked like a racing car. In fact, the DE VPS was so extremely crappy that I gave up on the Bo6 test after more than 2 hours.
So, sorry @c1vhosting but it seems you are de-throned and replaced by MG's DE, FRA VPS as the server with the crappiest disk.

Maybe I'll try again in a couple of weeks.

Important side note: both VMs were quite unresponsive, on the UK server I had multiple occasions with the shell prompt needing multiple seconds, even up to over 10 seconds even when entering very simple command like e.g. ls -la [some dir]/[some file pattern]. The reason? I don't know, probably brutal overselling, maybe abusers on the node or whatever.

For the sake of fairness I wish to re-state that I found my UK VPS from @MassiveGRID quite snappy wrt the terminal (and the panel too). I presume (but don't know for a fact) that my node were not fully occupied back then.

For the moment I tend to assume that there are some abusers on both my UK and my DE node and am willing to cut MG a couple of days of slack in order to investigate and remedy any problems.

Reason and TL;DR: I still consider the UK promo VPS a good deal for simple small use cases like an NSD slave or probably even a small static web site. After all, most providers ask for more money just for an IP alone ...
The DE VPS however I consider, pardon my harsh language, utterly crappy and useless, in part also because its connectivity is ridiculously poor.

    @jsg said: So, sorry @c1vhosting

Thanks, we're actually getting a lot better and the stability has been really good for a while now.

    Thanked by 1jsg
  • c1vhosting sounds cheap and cheerful :D :D :D , exactly my kind of provider. I ought to try them out.

The quality of the VPS is terrible, this is a scam. The VPS has constant downtime and is unusable. Installing the OS took several hours, and installing the panel also took hours. The support is bad as well. Do not use services from here.

Some current and new benchmarks upcoming. Spoiler: both my @MassiveGRID VPS have turned into a shit show. At the beginning the UK one wasn't exactly great but it was actually usable albeit only for small jobs - now however it also has turned into a crap box just like the DE one.
