So many people moved to Proxmox after their games. Have to be silly to get roped back into them.
I will give it a try for testing purposes, let's see for how long it stays available this time
If you had the Effort to move from VMWare to Proxmox, there should be no point in moving back.
Even if you have software requirements, that cant be met by Proxmox, it should be easy finding a different platform.
We had been using from 5.5 till 7.0, but were very happy with our proactive switch to proxmox 3 years ago.
but ESXi provides a learning opportunity for people to enter the enterprise work environment. at least they know the basic features and how to use them.
Smart (and rare!) move from Broadcom. The limitations of the free version are plenty for some usage types. Their pricing increases still have created some issues in terms of scalability, which will be somewhat sorted out in May. Nevertheless it's a nice move.
The ESXi is a very solid piece of software, among the most solid I've tested.

Considering the cost and labor it took many of my customers to move away from Broadcom, they would shoot me in the head if I even mentioned VMware to them again. I'm mostly kidding, but in some cases I would actually fear physical damage if I tried it, not kidding.
Companies need partners they can trust, Broadcom has already shown they are not one of them.
