Cost effectiveness: VPS vs seedbox

Is there a general answer to whether a shared VPS running a single app is more or less expensive than a seedbox running that app?

I could imagine that managed (seedbox) is more expensive but I could also imagine that flexible (VPS) is more expensive.

Right now I primarily care about torrent clients but I've also wondered about things like web servers and SQL.

It's highly dependent on your usecase, the types of torrents you want to download (private trackers vs open), and how much risk you want to take with the VPS provider, and how much time you want to spend maintaining it all.

  • VPS with swizzin panel is generally cheaper. Try contabo storage VPS.

  • If your time is money, then managed like Whatbox are probably good way to go. If you have more time to devote to server maintenance and issues, or just want to learn how it all works then a VPS would be good. In the end your service either costs more money, or more time.
